The Bookkeeper supports the daily accounting operations of Scenic Community Credit Union by maintaining accurate financial records, performing reconciliations, and assisting with month-end processes. This role is hands-on and collaborative, working closely with the CFO and branch teams to ensure transactions are recorded correctly and financial data is reliable and timely.

Key Responsibilities

Daily & Operational Accounting

• Post and verify daily transactions, including member activity, loan transactions, ACH activity, and general ledger entries
• Balance and reconcile cash accounts, settlement accounts, and key GL accounts on a routine basis
• Monitor daily balancing reports and assist in resolving out-of-balance conditions

Reconciliations & Controls

• Perform monthly reconciliations for assigned general ledger accounts
• Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
• Maintain documentation to support reconciliations and audit trails
• Follow internal controls and help identify areas for improvement

Month-End Close Support

• Assist CFO with month-end close, including journal entries and reporting support
• Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for financial statements
• Help track and explain variances where needed

Accounts Payable & Support Functions

• Process invoices and ensure proper coding and approval
• Maintain vendor records and payment schedules
• Assist with fixed asset tracking and prepaid expense schedules

Collaboration with Branch & Operations Teams

• Serve as a resource for branch staff on balancing issues or transaction questions
• Communicate clearly to resolve posting errors or discrepancies
• Support operational accuracy across departments

Audit & Compliance

• Assist with internal and external audits by gathering requested documentation
• Ensure compliance with credit union policies, GAAP, and regulatory expectations (NCUA)
• Maintain organized records for audit readiness

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Associate’s degree in Accounting or related field required (Bachelor’s preferred)
• 1–3 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience
• Credit union or banking experience strongly preferred

Skills & Competencies

• Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals (debits/credits, reconciliations)
• Strong attention to detail — especially in balancing and error detection
• Comfortable working in multiple systems (core + Excel)
• Ability to prioritize daily deadlines (balancing) alongside monthly tasks
• Strong communication skills for working with non-accounting staff
• High level of discretion and integrity
