Location: Toronto, Ontario | Hybrid

Reporting line: CEO, on an interim basis

Vacancy: One existing vacancy

About the opportunity

We are hiring our first in-house technology leader to keep our systems reliable, secure and effective as we grow. This is a hands-on role. You will translate business needs into action, solve problems alongside advisors and staff, and hold managed service partners and vendors to a high standard. You will also lead practical AI adoption and develop policies for safe, compliant technology use.

Reporting to the CEO on an interim basis, you will have no direct reports at launch. The role offers a growth path to Head of Technology as Sonance adds partner firms.

What you will do

  • IT operations and managed services: Own the day-to-day relationship with MNP Digital, including service requests, escalations, invoice reviews and monthly service-level reviews. Oversee hardware, devices, networks, Teams calling and meeting-room technology, and provide hands-on technical support when needed.
  • Identity, single sign-on and portals: Lead Microsoft Entra ID single sign-on across core platforms, with multi-factor authentication. Support the client portal launch, resolve access issues, and manage joiner, mover and leaver processes and quarterly access reviews.
  • Partner-office onboarding: Build a repeatable onboarding playbook for new partner firms. Lead device setup, Microsoft 365 email and file migrations, platform access and retirement of legacy systems, working with Integrations and Support Services.
  • Platform and vendor management: Act as the primary operational contact for platforms including Wealthbox, Addepar, Flyer and Co-Pilot, Planworth, nGauge, NetSuite and Invent. Resolve cross-vendor issues, maintain vendor oversight records and evaluate new tools.
  • Practical AI adoption: Work with an external consultant to identify, pilot and scale useful AI workflows. Partner with the Chief Compliance Officer on privacy, confidentiality and record-keeping requirements, and maintain an inventory of AI tools in use.
  • Security, continuity and policy: Own the information-security program with MNP Digital, including risk assessments, vulnerability testing, incident response and staff training. Maintain and test technology continuity and recovery plans, own the IT and AI policy framework, and prepare evidence for audits and regulatory reviews.
  • Technology planning and budget: Build a rolling roadmap aligned with Sonance's growth, manage technology spending and licences, and report on service levels, security, projects and costs.

What success looks like in your first year

  • Reliable access: The client portal is live, single sign-on is in place, and login issues are resolved within agreed response times.
  • Clear support: MNP Digital's responsibilities and service levels are defined, with performance reviewed monthly.
  • Practical controls: An approved IT and AI policy framework is in use and supported by staff training.
  • A clear roadmap: Systems, vendors and licences are inventoried, with a two- to three-year technology plan.
  • Measured AI progress: Two or three AI use cases are piloted, with time savings or service improvements measured.

What you bring

  • Technology leadership: At least five years of progressive IT or technology-management experience, including direct oversight of managed service providers and vendors.
  • Hands-on Microsoft expertise: Microsoft 365 administration experience across Exchange Online, SharePoint, Entra ID and Intune, including single sign-on implementation.
  • Migration delivery: Experience leading email cutovers, file migrations and device rollouts with minimal disruption.
  • Security and regulatory knowledge: Working knowledge of NIST or CIS frameworks, incident response and business continuity, plus the privacy and record-keeping obligations of registered Canadian financial-services firms.
  • An AI-forward approach: Practical use of AI in your own work and the ability to explain its opportunities and risks to non-technical colleagues.
  • Strong communication: A calm, collaborative approach to troubleshooting, vendor management and work across multiple offices.

Experience in wealth management, financial advisory or another regulated financial-services environment is preferred. Familiarity with CRM, portfolio accounting, custodian integrations, client portals and the movement of data between platforms would be valuable. A degree in Computer Science, MIS or a related field, or equivalent experience, is also preferred.
