Field Operations Supervisor: Nights and Weekends
About SparkCharge
SparkCharge is a fast-growing cleantech company reducing barriers to electric vehicle adoption. We design, manufacture, and deploy portable Level 3 charging systems, and we build temporary off-grid charging infrastructure for autonomous and commercial fleets nationwide — combining generators, battery energy storage (BESS), DC fast chargers, fuel storage, and power distribution into rapidly deployable sites. Be part of the clean energy solution.
About the role
SparkCharge is seeking a Field Operations Supervisor to lead overnight and weekend field operations across our mobile EV charging sites. You will make sure technicians have clear direction, that operational issues get timely attention, and that the daytime team starts its shift with set priorities and the resources to execute.
What you'll do
You will work alongside our Network Operations Center (NOC), which receives tickets and dispatches equipment support and vendors. You assess field impact, set response priorities, coordinate technicians and qualified support, and verify service restoration. This role calls for practical field knowledge and independent judgment. During your shift, you are the senior operations decision-maker while the rest of the company is offline.
Key Responsibilities
Lead off-hours field operations
- Monitor site charging availability, equipment alerts, fuel levels, battery status, and client operating needs using available dashboards, NOC updates, and technician reports.
- Confirm technician attendance and coverage, communicate shift priorities, track assigned tasks, and coordinate replacement coverage when needed.
- Identify risks to charging continuity and coordinate approved contingency actions before they affect fleet operations.
Coordinate incidents and service restoration
- Assess the operational impact of equipment issues, including available charging capacity, affected vehicles, and urgency. Guide information gathering and approved basic checks within personnel training and authorization.
- Direct field response and coordinate with the NOC on vendor dispatch, service priorities, arrival estimates, and escalations. Engage qualified Field Services, Engineering, or vendor technicians for diagnosis and repairs.
- Track incidents through resolution or documented handoff. Verify charging functionality and site readiness with field confirmation and operating data before treating service as restored.
- Escalate outages, safety concerns, vendor delays, fuel shortages, and staffing gaps using established thresholds. Provide factual operational updates to designated internal stakeholders.
Prepare the next day and complete the handoff
- Review the next day’s staffing, charging requirements, fuel deliveries, service visits, and planned site work. Confirm technician assignments, access arrangements, vendor commitments, and required resources.
- Flag readiness gaps and unresolved dependencies to the responsible daytime owner before shift end.
- Deliver a written morning handoff covering site status, overnight events, completed tasks, unresolved issues, vendor timelines, and daily priorities. Include an owner, next action, and expected timing for each open item.
- Maintain accurate incident records and identify recurring issues, checklist gaps, and opportunities to improve response and handoff procedures.
Authority and working relationships
- Direct technicians’ operational work during assigned shifts and prioritize NOC support for field incidents.
- Arrange approved vendor support, staffing coverage, and contingency resources within delegated spending limits. Escalate decisions outside those limits to the designated on-call leader.
- The Mobile Operations Manager retains people management and scheduling accountability.
- Follow established safety procedures and escalate unsafe conditions immediately. Technical repairs, electrical work, and equipment interventions requiring specialist qualifications are performed by appropriately trained and authorized personnel.
Qualifications
- 2+ years supervising field operations, dispatch, or distributed service teams, with demonstrated responsibility for incident management and shift handoffs.
- Hands-on working knowledge of generator operation, fueling, monitoring, and recognizing fault conditions.
- Hands-on working knowledge of EV charging equipment, battery energy storage, or comparable high-voltage industrial systems, with the ability to assess operating impact and engage the right technical support.
- Strong judgment, vendor follow-through, technician coordination, and concise written communication under time pressure.
- Comfort using monitoring dashboards, ticketing systems, schedules, and collaboration tools.
- Availability to work the defined overnight and weekend schedule consistently.
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certificate or associate degree a plus.
- Ability to pass a background check.
Preferred Experience
- EV charging, temporary power, fleet operations, equipment rental, or industrial field service experience.
- Familiarity with NOC workflows, charging continuity planning, and multi-site incident coordination.
- Experience in a startup or high-growth operating environment where priorities shift quickly.
Work Environment
- This is a monitoring and coordination role. Work is performed from a workstation using dashboards, ticketing systems, and collaboration tools, in regular contact with technicians, the NOC, and vendors.
- Site visits for onboarding and operational familiarization may be required.
- Sustained attention and clear written communication during overnight hours are essential to the role.
Measures of Success
Success is measured through off-hours charging availability, timely response and escalation, verified restoration, technician task completion, next-day readiness, and complete morning handoffs. Restoration performance is assessed with the teams and vendors responsible for technical repairs. Coverage follows an agreed shift schedule with designated relief and escalation support.
