Terra Energy

Florida Licensed Building Inspector (BN)

About Us and Why We’re Hiring

Terra Energy is a fast-growing residential solar installation company operating across Florida and Texas. As we scale our operations, we are building an in-house engineering team to support plan review, inspection services, and installation quality assurance — allowing us to move faster, maintain higher standards, and deliver exceptional outcomes for our customers and installation crews.

The Role

Terra Energy is seeking a Florida Licensed Building Inspector (BN) to support our growing private provider inspection program for residential solar projects across Florida. This is a primarily remote position focused on conducting video-based inspections and reviewing photo documentation to verify code compliance, installation quality, and adherence to approved permit plans. Unlike traditional inspector roles, this position does not require extensive travel or routine on-site field inspections. The ideal candidate will leverage their expertise in Florida building codes, residential construction, and solar installations to perform efficient remote inspections, provide clear compliance guidance, and help accelerate project completion while maintaining the highest quality standards.

What You’ll Be Doing

Private Provider Plan Review (PPR)

Conduct inspections of residential solar installations on behalf of Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) and private provider programs, ensuring compliance with approved permit documents and applicable code requirements before project closeout and utility approval.

Inspection Services

  • Conduct inspections of residential solar PV installations to verify compliance with approved plans and permit requirements.
  • Perform inspections through video inspections, or structured photo documentation reviews where permitted.
  • Verify proper installation of solar modules, mounting systems, roof attachments, structural components, conduit, wiring, disconnects, inverters, and associated equipment.
  • Confirm compliance with Florida Building Code requirements, approved permit documents, and manufacturer installation standards.
  • Document inspection findings and clearly communicate deficiencies requiring correction.
  • Issue inspection approvals and compliance reports in accordance with applicable private provider requirements.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records, documentation, and reporting logs.

Code Compliance

  • Interpret and apply Florida Building Code provisions and local jurisdictional requirements.
  • Verify field installations comply with approved plans and engineering specifications.
  • Identify installation deficiencies, safety concerns, and code violations.
  • Stay current with updates to Florida Building Code, industry standards, and solar installation best practices.
  • Support internal teams with technical guidance regarding inspection and compliance matters.

Quality Assurance

  • Assist in developing and maintaining installation quality standards.
  • Audit completed projects through photo reviews, and quality control assessments.
  • Identify recurring installation issues and provide recommendations for corrective action.
  • Collaborate with operations, permitting, engineering, and field teams to improve installation quality and reduce rework.
  • Support development of inspection procedures, SOPs, and quality assurance programs.

What We’re Looking For

  • Active Florida Building Inspector (BN) License.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience performing building inspections, code compliance inspections, construction quality control, or related field inspection work.
  • Strong knowledge of Florida Building Code (FBC) and residential construction practices.
  • Experience conducting field inspections and documenting inspection findings.
  • Familiarity with Florida AHJ inspection processes and permitting requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, engineering drawings, and permit documentation.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage inspection schedules effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience inspecting residential solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.
  • Experience working as a Florida Private Provider Inspector.
  • Additional Florida certifications such as Plans Examiner (PX), Building Official (BO), Electrical Inspector (EI), or Electrical Plans Examiner (EP).
  • Experience working directly with municipalities, county building departments, and AHJs.
  • Knowledge of NEC requirements related to solar installations.
  • Familiarity with SolarEdge, Enphase, battery storage systems, and residential electrical infrastructure.
  • Experience supporting high-volume residential construction or solar operations.
