Job Purpose

As the Senior Manager, NPI Quality, Consumer Technology, you will serve as the technical and operational authority responsible for executing the New Product Introduction (NPI) quality framework for VulcanForms’ V3 consumer technology program. This role blends high-level engineering leadership with direct, floor-facing technical execution.

Your mission is to bridge the gap between advanced manufacturing development, rapid scaling, and tier-one customer expectations. You will directly oversee inspection protocol setup, drive real-time shop-floor defect resolution, validate metallurgical and metrology systems, and govern First Article Inspection (FAI) releases for high-stakes consumer hardware launches.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational NPI Quality Execution: Govern and execute integrated NPI quality plans on the production floor from early process development through full serial production, systematically elevating Manufacturing Readiness Levels (MRL) for the V3 Consumer Electronics program.
  • Direct Metrology & Metallurgical Validation: Oversee the definition, calibration, and operational validation of advanced metrology protocols (CMM, structured light, CT scanning) and metallurgical testing standards (tensile, density, microstructural evaluations) for advanced metals/alloys.
  • Shop-Floor Root Cause & CAPA Ownership: Lead daily technical root cause investigations directly on the production line for complex geometric distortion, machining variances, and post-processing non-conformances; enforce org-wide corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) using advanced data analytics and 8D methodologies.
  • Tier-One Customer Interface: Serve as the primary technical quality authority for strategic consumer electronics customer teams—leading on-site technical reviews, executing First Article Inspections (FAI/AS9102), and driving resolution on complex engineering challenges.
  • In-Line Quality & Material Review Board (MRB): Actively lead MRB evaluations to disposition non-conformances in real time; establish Statistical Process Control (SPC) frameworks and sensor-driven process verifications to maximize production yield.
  • Cross-Functional Engineering Collaboration: Partner closely with Process Engineers, 5-axis Machinists, EDM specialists, and Surface Finishing leads to embed Design for Quality (DFQ) principles and precise GD&T controls into daily production workflows.
  • Team Leadership & Technical Mentorship: Direct and work alongside a high-performing team of NPI Quality Engineers and Technicians; establish clear standard operating procedures (SOPs), quality control standards, and operator inspection training.
  • Technical Supplier Quality Audits: Direct technical supplier quality activities, performing on-site qualification audits and material verifications for raw material suppliers and secondary post-processing vendors.
Qualifications
  • Experience: 8+ years of progressive quality engineering and technical leadership experience in advanced, high-consequence precision manufacturing, with a documented track record of scaling NPI programs into production environments.
  • Operational Presence: Demonstrated track record of active floor engagement, working directly alongside engineering teams, operators, and manufacturing equipment.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Industrial Engineering, or Quality Engineering; Master’s degree preferred (or equivalent practical industry experience).
  • Technical Mastery: Deep proficiency in advanced GD&T implementation, CMM/optical metrology, metallurgical evaluation methods, tolerance stack-up analysis, and statistical process control (SPC / Cpk analysis).
  • Standards & Systems: Comprehensive knowledge of ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 Quality Management Systems, engineering change order (ECO/ECN) management, and structured First Article Inspection (FAI) or Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) frameworks.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Additive Manufacturing Knowledge: Background in LPBF, DED, or metal additive manufacturing workflows (including powder metallurgy and microstructural characterization) is highly desired, though candidates with strong precision hardware/machining backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
  • Consumer Technology Pace: Direct experience managing fast-paced NPI cycles, tight tolerance requirements, and tier-one customer quality expectations in consumer hardware or high-volume electronics.
  • Certifications: CQM, CQE, or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt certification.
  • Regulated QMS Exposure: Secondary exposure to AS9100, AS9102, or regulated environments (ISO 13485) is a plus.
