The Opportunity: As a Press Assistant, you will provide essential daily support to the WisDems Communications Department. Reporting to the Deputy Communications Director, you will handle the administrative and operational tasks that keep our press team organized and informed. You will monitor Wisconsin political news, compile daily press clips, and help draft press releases and the Party Chair’s weekly newsletter. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented communicator who wants to learn how political messaging works from the ground up during a major election cycle.


What You’ll Do at WisDems: 

  • Compile and send daily news clips to staff and leadership. Monitor media coverage, archive important interviews, and correct audio transcripts.
  • Review incoming press requests, route them to the correct team member, and help schedule media interviews for the WisDems Chair.
  • Manage and consistently update the WisDems statewide press contact list to ensure our emails reach the right reporters.
  • Help the team draft press releases, media advisories, and talking points as needed.
  • Write, format, and send the WisDems Chair’s weekly email newsletter.

Qualifications (Required):

  • Writing Skills: Strong writing and proofreading abilities, with a good grasp of grammar and professional tone.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to manage large amounts of information (like transcripts and media lists) accurately.
  • Time Management: Ability to balance multiple tasks and prioritize effectively to meet daily deadlines.


Qualifications (Preferred):

  • Previous experience (including internships) in communications, political campaigns, journalism, or public relations.
  • Experience using email marketing platforms, such as Mailchimp or ActionNetwork.
  • Familiarity with the Wisconsin political landscape and local media.


Note: On-year requirements include working outside of normal work hours; including canvassing and other election-preparation as necessary.
