Production Roaster

Location: Austin, TX
Department: Production / Roasting
Job Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday–Friday (Hours TBD)
Pay Range: $18.00 - $20.00 / hour depending on experience 

Position Summary

The Production Roaster is responsible for roasting coffee according to daily production needs while maintaining the quality and consistency our customers expect from Atlas Coffee Club.

This is a hands-on production role that combines coffee roasting, quality control, green coffee inventory management, equipment maintenance, and general warehouse responsibilities.

As part of the Roasting Team, you'll work closely with other roasters and production team members to ensure the right coffees are roasted accurately and on schedule. You'll also participate in cuppings, sensory development, and quality-control exercises designed to continually improve your knowledge of coffee and roasting.

The ideal candidate is reliable, organized, mechanically inclined, comfortable working in a production environment, and interested in developing a deeper understanding of coffee.

Key Responsibilities

• Roast coffee according to daily production schedules and fulfillment requirements.
• Accurately follow established roast profiles, procedures, and quality standards.
• Coordinate with the Fulfillment Team to ensure daily coffee production needs are met.
• Assist with quality-control, cuppings, sensory exercises, roast color, grind specifications, and coffee calibration.
• Receive, organize, and maintain accurate inventory of green coffee.
• Record green coffee lots and applicable ICO information in inventory systems.
• Monitor roasted and green coffee inventory and communicate potential shortages or discrepancies.
• Perform daily cleaning and preventative maintenance on coffee roasters and supporting equipment.
• Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the roasting area and cupping lab.
• Monitor and maintain inventory of cupping and roasting supplies, including filters and RO filtration supplies.
• Safely unload and move incoming coffee and materials using pallet jacks and/or forklifts.
• Assist with general warehouse organization and cleaning as needed.
• Follow all company food safety, sanitation, warehouse, and workplace safety procedures.
• Communicate equipment issues, inventory concerns, quality issues, or production delays to the appropriate team members.
• Support other roasting and production responsibilities as business needs require.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least 1 year of experience in a warehouse, production, food and beverage, manufacturing, service, or coffee environment preferred.
• Previous coffee roasting experience is a plus but not required.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to consistently follow established processes.
• Dependable attendance and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Comfortable working independently and managing multiple production priorities.
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with Google Workspace.
• Interest in coffee, roasting, sensory development, and continued learning.
• Forklift or pallet jack experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements

The physical requirements listed below represent those necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Ability to regularly stand and move throughout the production facility for extended periods.
• Ability to bend, kneel, squat, reach, push, and pull throughout the workday.
• Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to safely operate or learn to operate warehouse and roasting equipment.
• Ability to work in an active production and warehouse environment.
