We are looking for a highly analytical engineer to play a key role within our organization by contributing to the performance monitoring and optimization of a growing portfolio of power plants (wind, solar, hydraulic, thermal and storage) comprising 185 production sites totaling more than 14 GW of installed capacity in Canada, the United States and soon in Europe. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Periodically analyze operational data from portfolio plants to identify optimization opportunities: run automatic detection tests and review time series, correlations, status codes, maps and statistical indicators using our in-house AxiumData platform to identify anomalies.
  • May refer to equipment configuration parameters and technical documentation to understand potential causes of observed deviations and occasionally conduct site visits to deepen understanding of recurring issues.
  • Document the findings of investigations and clearly explain the issues to asset managers and operating partners in order to accelerate the implementation of corrective actions and optimize asset performance.
  • Assume a proactive role in continuous improvement by capitalizing on lessons learned and contribute to the sharing and implementation of good practices between assets.
  • Participate in the development of preventive approaches to improve the reliability and long-term performance of facilities.
  • Contribute to the optimization of maintenance strategies, spare parts management and equipment configuration parameters.
  • Collaborate with the internal team of software developers and data scientists to enhance the AxiumData management and analytics platform.
  • Carry out ad hoc technical studies on specific performance issues or optimization projects (e.g. snow-related losses, equipment degradation, efficiency of de-icing systems, addition of vortex generators, etc.).
  • Contribute to the assessment of asset performance as part of due diligence reviews of potential acquisitions.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Hold a university degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • Have a minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial asset performance analysis or energy modeling and forecasting, ideally in the energy sector (wind, solar or storage).

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Strong interest in data mining and analytical investigation.
  • Excellent analytical skills, rigor and intellectual curiosity.
  • Interest in the operation of power generation systems and ability to quickly acquire technical understanding.
  • Strong interest in the renewable energy sector.
  • Experience with programming and data analysis tools (e.g. Python), databases (e.g. MySQL) and visualization software (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI) – an asset.
  • Bilingualism (oral and written) (French and English) in order to be able to deal on a daily basis with our colleagues in offices outside Quebec as well as with our external partners across Canada, the United States and internationally.
