ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a sharp, ownership-driven finance professional to anchor the controllership function of a growing organisation with cross-border operations (India–USA). The primary mandate is building and running a robust financial control environment — from books to board-ready MIS — while providing hands-on compliance support across tax, regulatory, secretarial, and international trade frameworks. This is a high-accountability, high-visibility role suited to someone who combines analytical rigour with practical execution.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Controllership (Primary Mandate)
1. Books & Financial Reporting
• Own end-to-end bookkeeping across entities ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
• Prepare and publish monthly financials — P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow — with variance commentary.
• Design and maintain a monthly close calendar; drive predictable, clean month-ends.
• Build management dashboards and MIS packs for leadership decision-making.
2. Audit Management
• Lead statutory, internal, and tax audits end-to-end — planning, fieldwork coordination, and sign-off.
• Liaise with external auditors; manage PBC requests and resolve queries efficiently.
• Track and close audit observations; maintain an action-tracker with ownership and timelines.
3. Accounting Policy & Technical Research
• Draft, document, and maintain accounting policies aligned with Ind-AS / IGAAP.
• Benchmark against industry practice and regulatory guidance before finalising positions.
• Prepare accounting memos for complex or judgement-heavy transactions (leases, revenue recognition, related-party dealings, business combinations).
4. Business Finance — Corporate Purchases
• Act as the embedded finance partner for the procurement / corporate purchases function.
• Review vendor contracts and purchase orders for commercial, taxation, and accounting implications.
• Ensure correct GST treatment, TDS applicability, and capitalisation vs. expense classification on all purchases.
• Drive cost governance: budgets, actuals, forecasts, and variance analysis on capex / opex categories.
• Support vendor negotiations with data-backed insights on pricing and payment terms.
B. Compliance & Regulatory (Supporting Mandate)
5. Direct Tax
• File corporate income tax returns, advance tax computations, support for tax audit.
• Manage TDS/TCS compliance — deductions, payments, quarterly returns (24Q/26Q/27Q), and Form 16/16A issuance.
• Identify and implement tax-efficient structures and exemptions to optimise the effective tax rate.
• Respond to income-tax notices; coordinate with consultants for assessments and appeals.
6. Indirect Tax & Routine Filings
• Own GST compliance: monthly/quarterly returns (GSTR-1, 3B), annual return (GSTR-9/9C), and reconciliations.
• Handle input tax credit matching, reverse-charge applicability, and e-invoicing / e-way bill processes.
• Manage other periodic filings: PF, ESIC, PT, and applicable cess/levies.
7. Export Compliance & FEMA / RBI Matters
• Ensure end-to-end compliance for export of goods and services: shipping bills, EDPMS, LUT / bond filing under GST.
• File and track Foreign Inward Remittance Certificates (FIRCs) and Bank Realisation Certificates (BRCs).
• Handle RBI / FEMA filings — ODI, FDI, FLA returns, APR/OPI reporting, and ECB reporting where applicable.
• Coordinate with AD banks on forex transactions and ensure timely realisation of export proceeds within prescribed timelines.
8. Transfer Pricing
• Maintain contemporaneous TP documentation as applicable, benchmark inter-company transactions, work with TP consultants.
9. US Compliance Support (India-Based)
• Coordinate with US CPAs / advisors on federal and state income tax filings for the group's US entity.
• Track US sales tax nexus, registrations, and periodic filings across applicable states.
• Support due diligence, W-8/W-9 documentation, and 1099/1042-S reporting as required.
• Maintain intercompany agreements and ensure consistency of positions across India and US entities.
10. Insurance
• Review, renew, and optimise the company's insurance portfolio (D&O, product liability, marine cargo, property, professional indemnity, key-man, etc.).
• Benchmark coverage and premiums annually; engage brokers for competitive quotes.
• Ensure claims are tracked, filed timely, and followed up to closure.
11. Secretarial Compliance
• Coordinate with the Company Secretary for ROC filings (annual returns, financial statements, board resolutions, share allotments, etc.).
• Maintain statutory registers and ensure timely compliance with Companies Act, 2013 obligations.
• Support board meetings — prepare agenda, notes to accounts, and follow-up action trackers.
• Manage any LLP / subsidiary / overseas entity compliance as applicable.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Qualifications
• CA (Qualified) with 2–3 years of post-qualification experience, OR
• CA (Semi-Qualified — Intermediate cleared) with 7–8 years of relevant hands-on experience.
• Articleship from a Big 4 (Deloitte, EY, KPMG, PwC) or top-10 Indian CA firm is a strong differentiator.
Technical Skills
• Strong command of Ind-AS / IGAAP and working knowledge of US GAAP a plus.
• Hands-on experience with Tally / Zohobooks/ SAP / QuickBooks or equivalent ERP.
• Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial models); Power BI or similar a bonus.
• Exposure to export documentation and foreign-exchange accounting.
Behavioural Competencies
• Ownership mindset — treats compliance deadlines as non-negotiable and proactively flags risks.
• Structured problem-solver — comfortable researching ambiguous issues and forming a defensible position.
• Clear communicator — can translate complex tax / accounting positions for non-finance stakeholders.
• Detail-oriented with a healthy appreciation for the big picture.
• Comfortable working in a lean, fast-moving environment with limited hand-holding.
WHY THIS ROLE
• End-to-end ownership: from ledger to board deck, India to USA — rare breadth for someone at this stage.
• Direct access to senior leadership and meaningful influence over financial strategy and structure.
• Complex, multi-jurisdictional exposure.
• Growing organisation — opportunity to build and formalise processes, not just follow them.
