Bay FC Jobs

Director, Communications

Background

Bay FC is the first NWSL team in the Bay Area. Co-founded by four U.S. Women’s National Team legends—Brandi Chastain, Aly Wagner, Danielle Slaton, and Leslie Osborne—in partnership with global investment firm Sixth Street, Bay FC is changing the face of women’s soccer as we know it. Beginning play in the 2024 season, we are building a squad that will play the beautiful game with power, passion, energy, and creativity.

Bay FC is a team that defies convention and transcends culture. We are proud to represent the Bay Area with its tapestry of different ethnicities, languages, climates, and ideas. Our team will be a uniting force, building a culture of belonging and shared pride. We will become a beacon of hope and connection, welcoming and embracing all fans. Our stadium will be a home for people of all backgrounds and identities. We will be the bridge that unites the Bay’s diverse communities. Through our actions and our love of the game, we will inspire and improve the lives of others.

While our community is our foundation, our love of football is our reason for being. We have the fire to be the best, and we will show up on the field every day with intensity, competitiveness, passion, and a drive to win.

Position Summary

We're looking for a Director of Communications to own business-side PR and communications — think corporate partnerships, marketing, ticketing, community impact, and executive visibility. You'll work closely with leaders and teams across the organization to develop strategies, craft messaging, and execute communications plans that move the needle for Bay FC's business goals.

This role calls for someone with strong media instincts, excellent judgment, and the ability to write and communicate with equal polish for a press release, an executive speech, or an internal all-hands. You'll be a key voice in shaping how Bay FC shows up in the world — not just in the sports pages, but in business, culture, and community conversations across the Bay Area and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Build and drive Bay FC's business communications strategy — from corporate partnerships and community impact to ticketing, brand campaigns, and major organizational moments.
  • Be the pitch machine: identify great storylines, cultivate media relationships, and land earned coverage with business, lifestyle, and culture journalists.
  • Write everything — press releases, exec speeches, internal updates, owner briefings, talking points. If words are involved, so are you.
  • Support executive thought leadership and visibility, including LinkedIn content, panel prep, presentations, and public remarks.
  • Serve as the connective tissue between Communications, Marketing, and Social to amplify stories across every channel.
  • Partner with HR and leadership on internal comms — All-Hands meetings, org updates, employee emails, and beyond.
  • Monitor media coverage and stay ahead of trends in women's sports, the Bay Area market, and the broader business landscape.
  • Support crisis communications and issues management when things get complicated.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years in PR, corporate communications, or media relations.
  • An exceptional writer and editor with a sharp eye for detail and brand voice.
  • Proven ability to develop storylines, pitch reporters, and earn media coverage.
  • Experience with executive communications, strategic planning, and crisis management.
  • A collaborative, proactive self-starter who thrives in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
  • Strong organizational skills — you can manage five priorities without breaking a sweat.
  • Genuine passion for women's sports and the Bay FC mission.
  • Flexible for evenings, weekends, and big moments — because soccer doesn't run 9 to 5.

Compensation:
The anticipated salary for this role starts at $120,000. Hired applicant will be eligible to receive an annual discretionary bonus. Actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.

Bay FC is an equal opportunity employer to all, regardless of age, ancestry, color, disability (mental and physical), exercising the right to family care and medical leave, gender, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, marital status, medical condition, military or veteran status, national origin, political affiliation, race, religious creed, sex (includes pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding and related medical conditions), and sexual orientation, or any other characteristics protected by applicable federal, state or local laws.
