Manager, Marketing and Content

About Mid Hudson Energy Transition

Mid-Hudson Energy Transition, Inc. (MHET) is a not-for-profit community-based organization that empowers municipalities, their residents, and businesses to own and share renewable energy, create healthier buildings, and join in community wealth-building to strengthen the resilience of the Hudson Valley in the face of climate change. We engage and build on the active involvement of communities, with particular emphasis on low-income and communities of color that are being harmed first and worst by climate change.

Job Summary

The Marketing and Content Manager shapes how MHET looks, sounds, and shows up for community members, funders, partners, and the public. This person owns MHET's brand and the day-to-day work of telling our story: social media, the website, the monthly newsletter, graphic design, event promotion, program recruitment campaigns, and energy education materials that help residents understand their homes, their bills, and their energy choices.

They work closely with program staff to turn real outcomes and real people's stories into materials that are clear, accessible, and true to the communities we serve. They also help our team share what MHET has learned with the wider field – producing the annual impact report, social media videos, presentations, and toolkits that show how a community-rooted model for energy justice actually works. This is a hands-on, high-output role for a strong designer and writer who likes seeing their work out in the world, someone equally comfortable designing a flyer, drafting a newsletter, and planning a campaign calendar.

Our Programs

Outreach & Education (O&E): Outreach is the cornerstone of all that we do. At its core, MHET is a community-based organization, formed in service to the Kingston community and the marginalized people who have been overburdened by environmental hazards here. Through our O&E program, we listen to the community’s needs, connect people to our programs, revise or co-create new programs in partnership with our Community Council, and create inclusive and accessible ways to educate our community on energy systems, solutions, and justice.

The HELP Fund: The HELP Fund is the Hudson Valley’s first green community investment fund. It mobilizes local capital to accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels while expanding access to safe, affordable, and energy-efficient housing for low- and moderate-income households. By offering a range of investment opportunities to both accredited and non-accredited investors, the Fund enables community members to invest directly in solutions that strengthen local resilience, reduce energy burden, and build long-term community wealth.

The Home Energy Loan Program (HELP): HELP provides 2% interest loans that help residents finance home energy upgrades that boost safety, health, energy efficiency, and climate resilience. Beyond financing, HELP offers wraparound project management support and includes incentives designed to empower borrowers, build wealth, enhance financial literacy, and support recovery from financial setbacks. This program is here to make energy improvements more accessible, impactful, and supportive of long-term financial wellbeing.

Home Upgrade Grants (HUG): HUG provides holistic project management to low-income homeowners for home improvements related to health, safety, energy efficiency and electrification. Through wrap-around technical and financing support – including grantmaking – and in collaboration with contractors and government agencies, HUG empowers residents to live in safe, healthy, efficient, and affordable homes, ready for electrification and resilient to climate emergencies.

Energy Innovation (EI): Energy Innovation encompasses a portfolio of projects with the central goal of empowering marginalized communities to own and share renewable energy; as such, it includes community solar (discounts on electricity bills through shared solar projects), renewable energy project development, and community energy planning. Currently, the EI team has been exploring a municipal thermal energy network, community-owned solar project, and an agrivoltaics pilot (agricultural farms paired with solar generation). Community ownership models, income generation for frontline communities, and local grid resilience are core considerations.

Responsibilities

Program Materials & Design (30%)

  • Co-develop an annual marketing calendar with program and leadership staff that sets a strategic cadence of campaigns, timed to meet recruitment, outreach, and fundraising goals.
  • Design visual assets for MHET's marketing, events, and fundraising – including social graphics, event flyers, presentations, and sponsor recognition materials – using tools such as Canva and Adobe.
  • Design and write program materials and energy education resources – workshop slides, handouts, FAQs, explainers, infographics, talking points, and short videos – that help residents understand MHET's programs, energy systems, utility bills, home upgrades, and energy justice, with subject-matter support from program staff.
  • Translate technical and policy topics (e.g., heat pumps, weatherization, community solar, thermal energy networks) into plain-language, visually clear materials.
  • Ensure all materials are culturally responsive, accessible, and reflective of the communities MHET serves, and advance language justice by making all materials available in plain language and in English and Spanish, in coordination with MHET’s in-house translation support.
  • Test materials with community members and the Community Council, and revise based on what people find useful and clear.

Channel Management (30%)

  • Lead MHET's social media presence across platforms: developing content calendars, creating and scheduling posts, monitoring engagement, and growing audience, including building MHET's video presence through short-form video.
  • Manage and maintain MHET's website, keeping content current, accurate, and strategically organized; update the impact page and program pages on a regular cadence.
  • Manage MHET's monthly newsletter, including list management, segmentation, content curation, design, and performance analysis.
  • Write and edit marketing content including newsletters, blog posts, social copy, and web pages; ensure all content is clear, compelling, and aligned with MHET's voice and values.

  • Design MHET's annual impact report and program-specific impact materials, working with the Managing Director of Programs & Impact to capture the best data throughout the year.
  • Plan and launch video campaigns with borrower, investor, donor, and community testimonials.
  • Support media and public relations efforts as needed, including drafting press releases, pitching stories, and building relationships with journalists that position MHET as a recognized voice in the energy justice space.

Staff Support (15%)

  • Serve as the team’s go-to partner for communications needs, including blogs, podcasts, flyers, newsletters, presentations, and campaigns.
  • Support staff in preparing speaking engagements, poster presentations, webinars, reports, and white papers; build and maintain a library of reusable templates so program staff can produce on-brand materials quickly.
  • Build and maintain a library of education resources that staff can use in the field, at community events, and online.
  • Produce donor- and funder-facing materials, such as one-pagers and program fact sheets, in collaboration with the Development team.
  • Support the creation of a holistic toolkit on the MHET model (HUG, HELP, the HELP Fund, and Outreach & Education), and turn program manuals into public content – blog series, explainers, and short videos – that show other communities how we've built our programs

Brand, Systems & Compliance (10%)

  • Own MHET's brand standards – logo use, colors, typography, templates – and keep them consistent across every program and channel.
  • Ensure compliance with HELP Fund marketing and advertising guidelines across all program-related materials.
  • Track and report on digital performance metrics – including social media KPIs, website traffic, email open and click rates, and form submissions – and use data to improve strategy over time.
  • Maintain MHET's crisis communications plan and support staff preparedness, in collaboration with the Executive Director.
