SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE

The Wood Carver Apprentice program is a paid, entry-level, developmental opportunity—offered as a 3-month full-time or 480-hour part-time program—designed to teach the art of wood carving and inlaying, with potential for full-time employment based on performance and proficiency. This program is ideal for individuals with a basic understanding of woodworking and a strong desire to grow in the trade while learning hand carving and inlay techniques. Apprentices will gain hands-on experience executing simple and complex inlays, working from templates, assisting skilled senior wood carvers, preparing materials, maintaining tools, and helping organize the workspace. This intensive program provides a unique opportunity to develop professional woodworking skills and gain practical experience in a production environment while learning the craft of wood carving.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Assist with preparing and organizing wood pieces for projects.
• Support machine setup and material handling under supervision.
• Operate basic woodworking tools and equipment (training provided).
• Help carve, sand, assemble, and finish wood components as directed.
• Follow shop drawings and work instructions with attention to detail.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Assist team members with moving materials and setting up workstations.
• Observe and learn from experienced woodworkers on carving, inlaying, and finishing techniques.

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic woodworking experience or coursework preferred (school, hobby, or trade setting)

Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced team members

Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship

Punctual, dependable, and safety-minded

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position operates in a manufacturing and production floor environment. At times, machines and hand tools may create noise exposure that is within sound level parameters.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for prolonged periods of time, some sitting, and some walking. Employees will be expected to repeat much of the physical motions throughout the shift that may include the use of their feet, legs, arms, wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Employees will operate a variety of equipment and hand tools in a repetitive manner requiring a high degree of manual dexterity and close visual attention. The employee must be able to carry and/or lift up to 50 lbs. if needed.
