Why ClearStar Needs You:

ClearStar's Legal & Compliance Manager owns the daily execution and continuous improvement of the company's compliance program. This is a senior individual contributor role: the in-house subject matter expert who keeps ClearStar's consumer reporting operations compliant, audit-ready, and optimized to support our customers' confidence in ClearStar. The right candidate brings deep CRA fluency, exercises sound legal judgment independently, and functions as a trusted partner to both legal leadership and the business.

What You'll Do:

  • Own end-to-end compliance operations: consumer disputes, full file disclosure requests, data subject privacy requests, FCRA adverse action workflows, and escalations from Sales, Support, and Operations
  • Establish and manage SLAs for compliance workflows, tracking performance and driving consistent execution
  • Monitor federal and state regulatory developments (FCRA, state CRA laws, ban the box, privacy frameworks) and translate changes into internal guidance, operational updates, and client communications
  • Maintain ClearStar's compliance policy and procedure library, ensuring documentation is current and operationally implemented
  • Own the client credentialing function, executing daily tasks while maintaining consistent turnaround standards
  • Support PBSA accreditation through audit preparation, documentation management, and gap remediation
  • Identify compliance risks and implement mitigation controls in coordination with the Associate General Counsel
  • Serve as the primary compliance resource for client-facing teams on credentialing requirements, adverse action obligations, and permissible purpose determinations
  • Develop and deliver employee compliance training and maintain training records
  • Support the Associate General Counsel with legal operations including contract governance, litigation coordination, entity filings, and document management
  • Additional duties as needed

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Legal Studies, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, or a related field
  • 5+ years of compliance experience at a Consumer Reporting Agency (CRA)
  • Deep working knowledge of the federal FCRA and relevant state consumer reporting laws
  • Experience supporting PBSA accreditation, including audit preparation or ongoing maintenance
  • Proven ability to independently manage compliance processes with minimal supervision
  • Strong judgment on when matters require attorney escalation versus independent resolution
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to translate regulatory requirements into clear operational guidance
  • A dedicated home office space that is noise- and distraction-free with access to a reliable and secure high-speed internet connection. Cable or fiber internet connections (at least 75mbps download/10mbps upload) are preferred, as satellite connections often cannot support the technologies used to perform day-to-day task.

Who You Are:

You bring deep subject matter expertise and take full ownership of your work. You stay ahead of regulatory developments and translate them into practical operational guidance without being asked. Your FCRA knowledge is solid enough to advise confidently and recognize when something requires attorney review. You communicate clearly in writing, whether drafting a client-facing resource, a policy update, or a brief for leadership. Cross-functional teams rely on you as their go-to compliance resource, and you deliver consistent, well-reasoned answers that move the business forward.
