Position Overview

The Fleet Maintenance Lead is a hands-on, technical expert who plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability and safety of COR's fleet. This position combines advanced diagnostic and repair skills with leadership responsibilities, directly supervising the workflow of technicians and serving as the first point of contact for complex mechanical issues. The Lead will ensure that all work meets high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency, supporting the Maintenance Shop Manager in achieving departmental goals.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Workflow Supervision:

• Act as the shop's primary technical expert, performing advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on trucks, compactors, and heavy equipment, with a focus on diesel engines.
• Assign daily work orders to maintenance technicians, prioritizing tasks based on urgency and shop capacity.
• Provide hands-on guidance, mentoring, and support to technicians, ensuring repairs are completed correctly and efficiently.
• Serve as the "go-to" problem solver for complex mechanical challenges on the shop floor.

Quality Control & Safety Compliance:

• Conduct quality control checks on completed repairs before vehicles are released back to service.
• Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, company policies, and DOT/OSHA regulations within the shop.
• Lead by example in promoting a culture of safety, cleanliness, and organization in all shop activities.

Operational Support:

• Assist the Maintenance Shop Manager with implementing preventative maintenance schedules and documenting repairs.
• Help maintain an organized inventory of parts, tools, and supplies, alerting the Manager to low stock levels.
• Support vendor interactions and assist with receiving/sourcing parts as needed.
• Step in to perform any technician's duties to maintain workflow and meet deadlines.
• Other duties as assigned.

What You Bring

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in fleet maintenance and repair, preferably in waste, recycling, logistics, or a similar industry.
• Proven expertise in vehicle and heavy equipment diagnostics, with advanced knowledge of diesel engine repair.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and OSHA safety standards.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a commitment to quality workmanship.
• Ability to communicate effectively with technicians, managers, and vendors.
• High school diploma or GED required; relevant technical certifications (e.g., ASE, EVT) are highly desirable.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

• This is a physically demanding role requiring lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, kneeling, and working in tight spaces.
• Regular exposure to loud noise, dust, fumes, grease, and varying weather conditions in a shop environment.
• Must be available for occasional on-call emergencies and overtime as required to support operational needs.
