Data and AI Engineering Associate (Co-op 8+ Months Preferred)

Job Summary:

This role centers around extracting clinical value from data produced by our proprietary sensors and systems (and beyond) to improve patient outcomes. We're looking for someone with solid foundations in software architecture and development to work with our Software Led Team to deliver high quality products.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain data pipelines that ingest, clean, transform, and consolidate data from multiple sources into reliable, structured outputs.
  • Translate regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPA, PHIPA) to product specifications and ensure compliance.
  • Develop backend services, APIs, and web interfaces that process data and present results and analytics to end users.
  • Assist in conducting technical risk and privacy impact assessments.
  • Support other teams with software and data needs as required

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of backend architecture design and implications on development, security, and privacy.
  • Strong knowledge of data structures and database fundamentals. (SQL and relational database)
  • Strong knowledge of back-end development (Python Preferred).
  • Experience building data pipelines or ETL processes (extract, transform, load), preferred.
  • Good knowledge of website front-end development (HTML, JavaScript, CSS; React/TypeScript a plus).
  • Familiarity with data-processing libraries (e.g., Pandas), preferred
  • Ability to work with a multidisciplinary set of teams
  • Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment and constantly changing conditions
  • Familiarity with version-control software (Git preferred)
  • Experience in Agile software development, preferred
  • Understanding of international regulatory pertaining to patient data security and privacy (HIPA, PHIPA), preferred
  • Optional skills: containerization and CI/CD tooling (e.g., Docker, GitLab CI).

Transparency & Hiring Practices:

Compensation: The pay for this position will be based on average co-op wages as outlined by your academic institution’s co-op program or similar institutions if specific data is unavailable, ensuring fair and competitive compensation aligned with industry and academic standards.  The typical range for this role is $22 - $25 per hour for work terms 2-4.

Grant Eligibility: This position is made possible through wage subsidy grants such as BioTalent SWPP. As such, participants must be a current full-time student registered in a Canadian Post-secondary program. International students are not eligible. Eligible participants must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada and be legally entitled to work.
