Foxleigh Mine is an established open-cut coal operation located in Queensland's Bowen Basin, approximately 15 kilometres south of Middlemount and 275 kilometres northwest of Rockhampton. Since commencing operations in 1999, Foxleigh has built a strong reputation for producing premium low volatile PCI metallurgical coal, a key ingredient in steel manufacturing supplied to customers around the world.

The Role

Foxleigh Mine is seeking an experienced and safety-focused Shotfirer to join our Drill & Blast team. Reporting to the Drill & Blast Supervisor, you will be responsible for the safe, compliant and efficient execution of blasting activities across the mine operation.


Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Safely handle, transport, store and use explosives in accordance with legislative, statutory and site requirements.
  • Prepare blast patterns and inspect drill holes in accordance with approved blast designs.
  • Safely and efficiently load explosives and conduct blast tie-ins, circuit testing and firing activities.
  • Maintain blast exclusion zones and ensure all personnel are accounted for prior to firing.
  • Conduct pre-blast and post-blast inspections and report blast outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate explosives inventory, security and statutory blasting documentation.
  • Ensure blast equipment is inspected, maintained and fit for purpose.
  • Work closely with Technical Services, Mining Supervisors, Blast Crew and contractors to ensure effective blast preparation and execution.
  • Identify and report hazards, incidents and improvement opportunities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on blast quality, safety and operational performance.

About You

Essential Requirements:

  • Current Open C Class Driver's Licence.
  • Current Queensland Shotfirer's Licence.
  • Standard 11 Surface Coal Induction.
  • Current Coal Mine Workers' Health Assessment.
  • Minimum 3–5 years' experience as a Shotfirer within an open-cut coal mining operation.
  • Strong understanding of blast design execution and explosives storage, transport and security requirements.
  • Strong hazard identification, risk management and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
