Chief of Staff, Commercial

Electricity grids are undergoing the most significant transformation in a century. The shift to renewables, the proliferation of rooftop solar, batteries and EVs, and the increasing complexity of distribution networks are forcing utilities to operate their grids in fundamentally new ways. Gridsight's vertical SaaS platform uses data, ML and AI to help grid operators modernise their operations and unlock transformational new capabilities. We deliver visibility into the grid edge, faster renewable connections, and real-time orchestration of distributed energy. The opportunity is enormous ($1B+ ARR).

We're embedded with over 50% of Australia's distribution networks, more than 30% in New Zealand, and have 1 of the top 5 utilities in the US as our lighthouse. Airtree led our Series A, we grew ARR 3.4x in the past 6 months, we just closed our Series B led by a major US fund, and we're on the path to build the first truly generational utility software company.

We are a team of builders. What unites us is that we’re curious, hungry and obsessed with maximising the impact we can deliver to Gridsight and the energy transition. If that sounds like you, come join us!

The role

Gridsight is entering a high-leverage phase of U.S. growth. We are looking for a Chief of Staff to work directly with our Co-Founder/CEO and Co-Founder/CCO across the commercial priorities that matter most to the business.

This is not an administrative or coordination role. It is a hands-on company-building role for someone who can take an ambiguous, high-stakes problem, find the shortest path to an answer and drive it through to a measurable outcome. The role can be based in San Francisco or Austin. Its primary focus will be the U.S. market, with scope to support global priorities when they are highest leverage.

Your mandate

Drive the highest-leverage commercial priorities

  • Own a small number of the company’s most important commercial initiatives at any time, from initial question to measurable outcome.
  • Work across market strategy, enterprise sales, strategic accounts, partnerships, pricing, product marketing, customer expansion and whatever becomes highest leverage as the business evolves.
  • Structure problems from first principles, form hypotheses, find the evidence, recommend a direction and execute.
  • Step into important work without an obvious owner, solve it and build the team or process to own it once it becomes repeatable.

Accelerate U.S. growth

  • Partner with the Co-Founders to understand U.S. customers and the market deeply, then translate that insight into clear choices about where and how we focus.
  • Advance our most important accounts, partnerships and commercial opportunities—from research and strategy through narrative, negotiation and follow-through.
  • Identify and remove bottlenecks across pipeline, the sales motion, customer proof, product fit, implementation and expansion.
  • Turn customer and market insight into better decisions across commercial, product and company strategy.
  • Support opportunities outside the U.S. when their potential impact makes them a company priority.

Create leverage for the Co-Founders

  • Turn founder priorities and decisions into clear workstreams, owners, timelines and outcomes.
  • Synthesize complexity into crisp, decision-ready recommendations and pressure-test assumptions without ego.
  • Represent the Co-Founders selectively in internal and external conversations, keep stakeholders aligned and escalate judgment calls quickly.
  • Take full ownership of important work that does not require the founders, creating more time for the things only they can do.
  • Build the context and trust to operate with minimal oversight while staying tightly aligned.

Build the commercial operating system

  • Create lightweight cadences, metrics and feedback loops that keep the highest-priority commercial work moving.
  • Surface gaps between teams and drive resolution before momentum is lost.
  • Improve how priorities are set, communicated and tracked across the company.
  • Turn successful one-off solutions into repeatable playbooks and processes without creating bureaucracy.

What success looks like

  • The company’s highest-leverage commercial priorities move faster and reach measurable outcomes.
  • Our U.S. market insight becomes sharper, key accounts and partnerships advance, and the go-to-market motion continually improves.
  • The Co-Founders spend materially more time on their highest-value activities because you fully own delegated priorities.
  • Cross-functional problems do not stall or fall between teams; the decision, owner and next step are clear.
  • You continually identify the next source of leverage as the company and market evolve.

What will make you phenomenal

  • You see no walls. If something matters, you find a path through functional boundaries, hierarchy and uncertainty.
  • You are a first-principles problem solver who seeks truth, challenges assumptions and builds answers from the ground up.
  • You drive and effect change. You own outcomes rather than producing recommendations from the sidelines.
  • You have exceptionally high agency, low ego and a willingness to do whatever the mission requires.
  • You move fluently between strategy and execution—from an executive decision or enterprise negotiation to the analysis, document or follow-up required to make it real.
  • You develop strong commercial judgment quickly and can go deep on a technical product, an enterprise customer and a complex market.
  • You communicate with clarity, exercise sound judgment and earn trust with founders, executives, customers and partners.
  • Experience in a high-growth startup, strategy consulting, investing, banking or another high-velocity environment is useful; evidence of exceptional ownership and problem solving matters more than a conventional pedigree.
