Job Summary
The BIM/VDC Modeler produces accurate, constructible BIM content that supports coordination, prefabrication, and field installation. This role focuses on modeling electrical systems to company standards, preventing clashes through smart layout, and ensuring modeled components are fabrication-ready. The Modeler works closely with the BIM/VDC Coordinator and BIM/VDC Lead to resolve conflicts, maintain model quality, and keep assigned areas moving through milestones.

Primary Responsibilities

  • BIM Modeling (Electrical): Model electrical systems per standards and project requirements, including (as applicable) conduit, cable tray, equipment, supports/hangers, sleeves/penetrations, and related components. Maintain clean, organized BIM models.
  • Coordination & Constructability: Coordinate with architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and other trades. Identify constructability risks early and propose routing options. Model with consistent elevations/offsets, practical bend/connection logic, and adequate install/maintenance clearances.
  • Clash Detection & Prevention: Run clash detection and prevent clashes within assigned scope. Triage clashes by severity/impact (field, prefab, schedule) and drive resolution with the BIM/VDC Coordinator. Reduce rework through prevention-focused modeling.
  • Progress & Handoffs: Manage assigned work through internal milestones. Provide clear handoffs to the BIM/VDC Detailer, including assumptions, constraints, and pending items.
  • Quality Control: Self-check for completeness, accuracy, and standards compliance before review. Ensure modeled content supports downstream prefab/installation deliverables without avoidable rework.

Role Boundaries

  • The Modeler owns model geometry, coordination readiness, and constructability within assigned scope of work.
  • Final coordination decisions, priorities, and external communication/escalation are led by the BIM/VDC Coordinator and BIM/VDC Lead.

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Collaborate daily with Detailers, Coordinators, and the BIM/VDC Lead to align modeling with prefab and field needs. Reports directly to the BIM/VDC Lead.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong BIM modeling capability using Revit software, focused on constructible electrical systems
  • Working knowledge of coordination practices and clash detection workflows
  • Ability to interpret design intent into installation-ready model content
  • High attention to detail and standards compliance
  • Clear communication and ability to manage multiple priorities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Electrical field experience or strong understanding of installation constraints
  • Prefab-oriented modeling experience (fabrication-aware layout, repeatable assemblies)
  • Experience in multi-trade coordination environments and common clash patterns
