About the role

We’re looking for a Senior iOS Engineer to join our POS team. You’ll take technical ownership of a business-critical product used by hospitality operators, working across new features, performance improvements and core architectural components.

This is a highly AI-driven engineering role. You’ll be expected to use AI throughout the development lifecycle—from architecture, prototyping and coding to testing, debugging, documentation and production optimisation. We’re looking for someone who has already incorporated AI into their engineering workflow and is excited to operate in the driving seat of our AI-forward engineering transformation.

You’ll take technical ownership of a business-critical product used by hospitality operators while collaborating with Android, Backend, QA, Product and AI teams to deliver fast, reliable and intelligent product experiences.

What you'll do

• Own and evolve Nomni’s iOS POS application using Swift, Objective-C and core iOS frameworks.
• Use AI-assisted development tools extensively to accelerate architecture, coding, code reviews, testing, debugging and documentation.
• Identify opportunities to introduce AI-powered capabilities into the POS product and engineering workflow.
• Experiment with AI models, tools and agentic workflows to improve engineering speed and product quality.
• Design and deliver new product features and thoughtful UI/UX improvements.
• Improve application performance and stability, targeting a 20% reduction in crashes within six months.
• Develop reusable components, libraries and frameworks, including Flutter integrations.
• Integrate the application with backend services, APIs, payment terminals and POS hardware.
• Improve automated testing, CI/CD workflows and deployment processes using AI-supported engineering practices.
• Monitor production performance, troubleshoot complex issues and use data to improve the customer experience.
• Mentor engineers and help the wider team adopt effective, responsible AI-assisted development practices.
• Collaborate closely with Product, QA, Backend, Android and other stakeholders to deliver reliable, high-quality releases.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software development experience, primarily focused on iOS.
• At least 5 years of hands-on Objective-C experience within commercial applications.
• Advanced proficiency in Swift, with a strong understanding of UIKit and iOS internals.
• Demonstrated experience using AI coding and engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, ChatGPT or similar platforms.
• Ability to use AI effectively for solution design, code generation, refactoring, testing, debugging and technical documentation.
• Strong understanding of multithreading, memory management, design patterns and scalable architectures such as MVC, MVVM or Clean Architecture.
• Experience building transactional, high-availability or POS-related applications.
• Experience with APIs, application performance monitoring and production troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with Firebase, Crashlytics, Fastlane and GitHub Actions.
• Strong ownership, experimentation and continuous-learning mindset.
• Proven ability to mentor engineers and influence modern engineering practices.
• Based in Chennai or willing to relocate and work from our Chennai office.

Good to Have

• Experience developing AI-enabled mobile product features or integrating applications with LLM-powered services.
• Familiarity with AI agents, prompt engineering, model evaluation and AI observability.
• Experience implementing responsible AI practices, including privacy, security and human review.
• Strong understanding of POS workflows, payment processing and hardware integrations.
• Experience integrating payment terminals, printers, scanners or other POS devices.
• Experience with real-time data synchronisation, WebSockets and push notifications.
• Exposure to Flutter and shared cross-platform modules.
• Familiarity with App Store submission, review and release processes.
• Experience working on hospitality, retail, fintech or transaction-heavy products.
