Senior Accountant

About Overland AI

Founded in 2022 and headquartered in Seattle, Washington, Overland AI is transforming land operations for modern defense. The company leverages over a decade of advanced research in robotics and machine learning, as well as a field-test forward ethos, to deliver combined capabilities for unit commanders. Our OverDrive autonomy stack enables ground vehicles to navigate and operate off-road in any terrain without GPS or direct operator control. Our intuitive OverWatch C2 interface provides commanders with precise coordination capabilities essential for mission success.

Overland AI has secured funding from prominent defense tech investors including 8VC and Point 72, and built trusted partnerships with DARPA, the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, and Special Operations Command. Backed by eight-figure contracts across the Department of Defense, we are strengthening national security by iterating closely with end users engaged in tactical operations.

Role Summary

We are hiring a Senior Accountant to join our team and to build alongside us. This role is hands-on, fast-moving, and made for someone who likes to construct the thing rather than inherit it. You will partner directly with the Senior Manager of Accounting to run the day-to-day accounting function (close, AP and spend operations, customer billing, fixed assets and project accounting) and to build the workflows that take us from a small team to a scaled one.

This role is built for someone who thrives on responsibility and ambiguity. We are a flat team where the person closest to the problem usually solves it, and where reaching for the fix beats reaching for the escalation. Processes are documented in places, untouched in others, and changing in real time as we grow.

We are titling this opening flexibly between Senior Accountant and Accounting Manager and will calibrate level to the candidate. Scope will flex as you and the company grow: this is the second accounting hire at a company on track to need a third and a fourth, and the right person will take on more technical accounting, indirect rate work, and a larger voice in how the function is built over time.

What you'll do

Work on the monthly and quarterly close in QuickBooks Online (and soon, Campfire), including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and flux analysis.

Manage day-to-day AP and spend operations in Ramp, including bill processing, vendor management, and Ramp administration.

Handle government and commercial customer billing, including WAWF/PIEE submissions, AR, and collections.

Maintain the fixed asset subledger, CIP, depreciation, and the project accounting structures that roll up to our contracts.

Help us migrate from QuickBooks Online to Campfire, and build the workflows, templates, and documentation that scale with the company.

Tackle messy or undocumented historical data and turn manual processes into repeatable ones.

Support our annual financial audit, indirect rate work, and incurred cost submissions.

Flex into adjacent areas of the finance function as the team and the business grow.

Minimum Qualifications

4+ years of progressive accounting experience, including general ledger close and reconciliations, with strong working knowledge of US GAAP.

Excel fluency: comfortable building workbooks, reconciliations, and analyses from scratch.

A track record of building accounting workflows from scratch, not just operating within established ones.

       Strong written and verbal communication.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent practical experience.

Ability to work onsite at our Seattle office.

Ability to comply with U.S. export control laws.

Desired Experience & Qualifications

CPA license (active or in progress).

Industry background in defense technology, physical technology, hardware or robotics, manufacturing, or other high-growth tech companies.

6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including time in industry beyond public accounting.

Government contracting accounting exposure: FAR Part 31, DCAA, indirect rates, WAWF/PIEE invoicing, and project accounting / CPFF cost tracking.

Familiarity with our stack or adjacent tools: QuickBooks Online, Campfire, Ramp, and Rippling. ERP migration experience is a plus but not required.

Demonstrated bias toward building solutions over filing tickets.
