Position Summary

We're looking for a Product Engineer – someone who operates as much like a product owner as a software engineer. This role takes end-to-end responsibility for product work: shaping and validating the problem, deciding what's worth building and why, then building, launching to users, and measuring impact.

This isn't a role where requirements arrive fully formed. You'll be expected to dig into why a problem matters, bring customer context into your decisions, and use good judgment about what to build, how much, and how fast – while also bringing the technical rigor to make sure what ships is correct, secure, maintainable, and genuinely valuable. You're accountable for outcomes, not just for shipping tickets.

What You'll Do:

Product Ownership:

  • Take end-to-end ownership of assigned product work — from an ambiguous starting point, through shaping and validating the problem, to release and follow-through. You'll work in Python, Django, Fly.io, and Postgres, from data model to UI.
  • Ask why a problem matters, dig into customer context, notice friction points, and proactively propose what should be built — not just how.
  • Weigh speed against quality and choose the simplest approach that solves the real problem, rather than the most technically interesting one.

Delivery & Technical Judgment:

  • Fully own your work, breaking work into small, testable increments and getting real software in front of users quickly.
  • Own production quality on your releases, addressing any escaped defects quickly with appropriate root-cause follow-up.
  • Bring sound technical judgment to agentic development (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Cursor), reviewing, debugging, securing, and improving agent-generated output.
  • Contribute reusable patterns, tests, components, context files, automation, or improved agent workflows that increase the team's overall development leverage.

What Success Looks Like:

  • Product work assigned to you moves from idea to production reliably, whether that's scoping the problem, building, testing, releasing, or following up on how it performs, without needing significant rework or escalation.
  • The team and Director of Product trust your judgment on both technical and product tradeoffs, and increasingly hand you more ambiguous, less-defined problems.
  • Quality issues are rare, and when they do occur, they're caught and resolved quickly with minimal disruption.
  • Future work benefits from what you've built, whether that's shared components, tooling, or clearer patterns for using agentic development safely.

Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of experience in a builder (software engineering or developer) role, OR technical product management experience with a software engineering/CS degree.
  • Demonstrated history of shipping real production software; full-stack ownership strongly preferred.
  • Comfort operating with real product ambiguity – deciding what to build, not just how, and taking responsibility for the outcome.
  • Hands-on fluency with agentic engineering tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) and the fundamentals to review, debug, secure, and improve their output.
  • Evidence of scope and sound judgment matters more than years of tenure.
  • Customer-first mindset, with a genuine interest in how their work impacts real users, not just in the technical elegance of the solution.

Benefits:

  • Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • Retirement Plan (401k) with company match
  • Life Insurance (Basic, Voluntary & AD&D)
  • Paid Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays)
  • Training & Professional Development

Compensation:

  • $120,000-$130,000 base + 5% bonus (depending on experience)
