Design Associate

Founded in 1987, RAND Engineering & Architecture, DPC is an employee-owned 115+ person Manhattan-based firm that designs, specifies, and administers restoration, upgrade, and adaptive re-use programs on behalf of owners, managers, and co-op and condo boards.
We are currently seeking a draftsperson for our Structural department. Candidate should be self-motivated, energetic, organized and a team player.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

·         Develop a comprehensive scope of work and associated budget

·         Analyze plans, diagrams, probes and field notes, as well as observe and make notes on material processing, in an effort to determine material and material processing specifications for construction activities

·         Write technical descriptions specifying material characteristics, properties and performance

·         Prepare detail lists, draw sketches and arrange for finished drawings and/or photographs to illustrate specified materials and/or assembly sequence

·         Perform and assist with field work to obtain site specific information and coordinate with manufacturers

·         Develop and coordinate the bid package suitable for bid solicitation

·         Liaison between the RAND Project Manager and different team members to obtain all necessary information to compile bid documents

·         Prepare and/or review addenda, change orders and other contract documents associated with the bid package

·         Review submittals and material substitutions

·         Maintain digital and physical material/sample library

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor or Master of Architecture or equivalent
  • Bachelor or Master of Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work well under pressure, juggle and prioritize multiple projects and adjust work accordingly, often against tight deadlines. Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to interact with team members including, external client organizations and vendors.
  • Pursuing professional certifications or licensure a plus.
  • Positive attitude with proven proficiency working collaboratively within a team setting.
  • Strong work ethic, ability to work efficiently and with accuracy, takes responsibility for own work.
  • Self-motivated individuals capable of assuming increasing responsibility for both current and future projects, and who are interested in growing with the firm.
