About the role
Riot is seeking an EHS Specialist to join our growing EHS Department at our Denver based subsidiary, ESS Metron. This position is responsible as a proactive member of the Operational Excellence Division, ensuring continuity in standard operational safety standards across all departments while supporting the strategic vision of improvement through innovative solutions in all aspects of production. This role will be the driving force behind a transformation to best-in-class overall safety and workplace values for all employees.
Essential Functions
- Develop, coordinate, and implement occupational safety and health policies and procedures to drive an incident-free, high safety awareness culture across the organization.
- Lead internal Safety Committee responsibilities including daily/ad-hoc safety walk-throughs, floor inspections, visual safety board maintenance, and action item development.
- Manage the escalation path for real-time incident investigation and ensure formal CAR process adherence with highest priority and urgency.
- Develop and track all dimensional workplace metrics including safety KPIs and employee satisfaction scores.
- Generate and deliver standardized safety talks through organization-wide all-hands and reactive stand-down meetings on the shop floor.
- Ensure organization-wide compliance for personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Provide influence and support to operations supervisors and employees to accomplish HSE goals.
- Develop, maintain, and oversee tracking of industry-standard safety metrics (TRIR, DART, LWIR, non-reportable, near misses); work with personnel to identify deficiencies and implement corrections.
- Maintain and continuously update safety signage, machine operating guidelines, tools and supply requirements; ensure delivery and compliance of training with certifications kept current.
- Serve as first point of contact for all safety-related incident reporting; make time-critical decisions to protect the welfare of all employees.
- Maintain documentation to comply with company-specific safety policies, OSHA requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations.
- Work with personnel at all levels to identify opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
- Improve current company training to ensure competencies are maintained on applicable safety standards and required certifications.
- Manage workers' comp claims and coordinate modified duty provisions with the HR department.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and auditor software.
- Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with employees and management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentations.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills.
Education and Experience
- Associate's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field preferred
- 3+ years of equivalent work experience in HSE
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification preferred
