Job Summary

Selkirk Sport is hiring an R&D Systems Developer to build the software, automations and AI tools our R&D team uses to design and test the next generation of pickleball gear. You’ll work on-site with our USA R&D team in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and report to our Director of Business Tools.

This role suits a developer with a few years of hands-on experience across different technical stacks, who can take a project from idea to working tool with minimal hand-holding. You’ll sit with the engineers and technicians who use what you build, figure out what they need, and get it into their hands fast, even when requirements change along the way.

If you’ve built MCP servers, React apps or AI tools that real people use, and you want to see your work in the hands of the people designing the paddles pros play with, we’d like to meet you.

What you'll get to do

  • Tools for the R&D team. Design, build and maintain internal applications, scripts and interfaces, often in React, that support testing and product development workflows.
  • AI tools and MCP servers. Create AI assistants and automations that cut manual work, and build MCP servers and connectors that give AI tools secure access to internal systems and data.
  • Connected R&D data. Build integrations, APIs and data flows that link R&D tools and test data with company systems, plus dashboards that turn raw test results into information engineering and quality teams can use.
  • Fast iteration. Work side by side with engineers and technicians every day to gather requirements, ship working tools, and adjust when priorities shift.
  • A development team behind you. Partner with our Business Tools developers on code quality, standards and architecture, and help evaluate new technologies worth adopting.

AI is part of the job

At Selkirk, AI tools are part of how work gets done. In this role you'll build them. We're looking for someone who has created AI tools, LLM-based applications or MCP servers, or who can show us they learn new technology quickly enough to start doing so right away.

Who you are
You'll fit right in if you have:

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in software development, systems development or a related technical role
  • Experience across multiple technical stacks, and a track record of learning new platforms and switching technologies quickly
  • Working knowledge of APIs, databases and integrating systems and data sources
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Comfort with requirements and priorities that change mid-project
  • The ability to explain technical work in plain language to engineers, technicians and operations teams

Bonus points for:

  • Experience building MCP servers, AI tools or LLM-based applications
  • Experience with React or similar front-end frameworks
  • A background in sporting goods, consumer products, manufacturing or R&D
  • Familiarity with Palantir or other enterprise data platforms
  • Where and when you'll work

This is an on-site role at our Coeur d'Alene, Idaho facility, working alongside the USA R&D team. You'll be on our 4.5-day schedule: Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Some flexibility is needed during intensive development cycles.

Our investment in you

  • Medical, dental and vision insurance, starting the first of the month after your start date
  • 401(k) or Roth with a company match: 100% of the first 2% and 50% of the next 3%
  • Up to 3 weeks of paid time off per year, accrued each pay period, plus paid company holidays
  • Paid sick leave of at least 3 days per year, more where state law requires
  • Paid maternity and paternity leave
  • Company-paid life and AD&D insurance, with options to buy more
  • Telemedicine for you and your household at no cost
  • A confidential Employee Assistance Program for counseling, legal and financial support
  • Additional voluntary benefits plans
  • 75% off Selkirk gear, plus up to 60% off leading outdoor, fitness and nutrition brands through ExpertVoice

Our application process

We keep it quick and respectful of your time:

  1. One-way video interview. Answer a few questions on your own schedule.
  2. Online assessment. A short assessment of critical thinking, attention to detail and problem solving.
  3. Interview. A video interview over Google Meet with the hiring manager.

If you want to build the tools behind the next generation of pickleball gear, we'd love to hear from you.
