Healthcare IT Support Specialist (Contractor Role)

Summary: SharpeVision is seeking an experienced IT professional with previous experience in the healthcare sector. This is an ongoing contractor role that will support clinic locations in Illinois, Texas, and Ohio remotely. Additionally, this individual will support the Washington locations in Bellevue and Renton remotely, but must be within close travel proximity to the two locations for onsite support when needed. As our primary IT contact, you will provide comprehensive, company-wide technology support across all of our clinics.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

  • Company-Wide Technical Support: Serve as the main point of contact for routine technical support, managing ticket requests regarding hardware, software, network connectivity, and peripheral devices.
  • EHR & Application Management: Provision, configure, and troubleshoot user accounts and access permissions, with a heavy focus on our Electronic Health Record platform. Assist with medical device integrations and support software and vendor integrations.
    • Support with the maintenance of the Google Suite for email configuration, archiving existing emails and user Google Drive data, and maintaining the overall security of the server.
  • Security & Compliance: Ensure all IT operations and devices comply with healthcare regulatory frameworks, specifically HIPAA and HITECH guidelines, safeguarding sensitive protected health information (PHI). Manage company firewall and servers to ensure compliance, security, and maintenance.
  • Hardware & Infrastructure Upkeep: Troubleshoot, maintain, and upgrade local clinic workstations, printers, network routers, and specialized medical imaging servers as required. Support with license upgrades and renewals for hardware to ensure ongoing maintenance and functionality.
  • Medical Equipment Upgrades and Support: Assist with setup and integration of clinical medical devices to ensure proper execution with ongoing trouble shooting and preventative maintenance.
  • Phone Systems: Help troubleshoot VOIP phone systems and assist with software integrations.
  • Vendor Coordination: Collaborate with external healthcare software vendors and internet service providers to resolve complex system outages or bugs quickly. Assist with contract negotiations that impact the overall company IT infrastructure.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or GED required. Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree preferred. At least two years of healthcare IT experience is highly preferred. A minimum of 2 years prior experience working within a hospital, clinic, or regulated healthcare environment is required, alongside a strong understanding of HIPAA compliance.

Software/Application Experience: Experience with Modernizing Medicine (EMA EHR) is highly desired. Prior experience with Vonage phone systems, Phreesia, MD Prospects, are all plus.

Technical Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of Windows/Mac OS,iPad OS, Google Suite active directory, cloud storage, and basic networking (TCP/IP, DNS, Wi-Fi troubleshooting).

Medical Devices and Imaging: Experience configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining medical equipment and operating systems is a must. Prior knowledge with Alcon, Nidek, Zeiss, and Zeimer equipment is highly desired but not required.

Language Ability: Fluency of the English language. Speech clarity and recognition. Excellent oral and written communication and customer service skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to clinical and administrative staff.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to collect data and establish facts. Ability to interpret technical instructions in written or diagram form with the ability to use logic.

Work Environment: This contractor position will mostly work remotely and provide assistance to all SharpeVision locations. Onsite clinic support is expected in the Washington locations when remote support does not resolve outstanding issues. If offsite locations in Texas, Illinois, or Ohio require onsite support, a plan of action is expected to help resolve IT issues within these locations.

The ability to maintain and work with private patient and clinical data is required to be handled with the utmost care and confidentiality.

Physical Demands: While the majority of the work is performed remotely, physical demands will be presented when onsite in clinical locations. This can include heavy lifting and moving of computer and medical equipment for installation or repairs.
