Job Title: Director of Communication Access
Salary: The anticipated annual base salary range is dependent on experience, credentials, geographic location, and internal equity.

Benefits: This role is eligible for medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, paid holidays, a 401(k), and other company-sponsored benefits.

Hours: This is a full-time, exempt position. The role may require flexibility to support urgent service requests and changing scheduling needs.
Location: This role is remote/hybrid and open to candidates located in approved U.S. states.

Role Overview 


The Director of Communication Access is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the strategy, operations, quality, and scalability of SignWow’s interpreting services in the United States.


This role leads all interpreter operations supporting VRI, VRS, captioning coordination, and scheduled interpreting services, ensuring high-quality service delivery, interpreter performance excellence, and operational efficiency.


The Director will manage interpreter teams, scheduling operations, and quality assurance while collaborating with technology, customer success, and executive leadership to scale SignWow’s communication access services nationwide.


This position plays a critical role in ensuring that Deaf and Hard of Hearing users receive reliable, professional, and culturally competent interpreting services across all platforms.


Key Responsibilities 


Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute operational strategies to scale SignWow’s interpreter services nationwide
  • Establish service delivery models for VRI, captioning, and interpreting.
  • Align interpreter services operations with SignWow’s long-term growth and technology roadmap
  • Partner with executive leadership to support expansion into new markets and sectors


Interpreter Operations Management

  • Lead the overall operations of interpreter services including:
    • VRI (Video Remote Interpreting)
    • Captioning coordination
    • On-demand and scheduled interpreting services
  • Ensure operational coverage to meet service demand and client requirements
  • Implement efficient workflows for interpreter scheduling and booking


Interpreter Booking & Scheduling Oversight

  • Oversee interpreter scheduling and booking systems to ensure optimal interpreter utilization
  • Ensure timely assignment of interpreters across all service types
  • Manage urgent and high-priority interpreting requests
  • Develop scalable systems to support 24/7 service operations if applicable


Interpreter Quality Assurance

  • Establish and maintain interpreter quality standards and evaluation frameworks
  • Monitor service delivery through performance reviews, service audits, and feedback systems
  • Implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance interpreting accuracy, professionalism, and cultural competence
  • Ensure interpreters maintain appropriate certifications, credentials, and continuing education


Interpreter Recruitment & Workforce Development

  • Lead recruitment strategies to expand SignWow’s national interpreter network
  • Oversee interpreter onboarding, training, and professional development programs
  • Develop retention initiatives to support interpreter engagement and career growth
  • Build relationships with interpreter training programs and professional associations


Technology & Platform Integration

  • Partner with product and technology teams to optimize:
  • VRI and VRS platforms
  • Captioning service workflows
  • Interpreter scheduling and dispatch systems
  • Provide operational insights to improve platform reliability, usability, and interpreter experience


Client Service & Escalation Management

  • Support enterprise clients, government agencies, healthcare providers, and educational institutions
  • Address complex service escalations and ensure high client satisfaction
  • Ensure service delivery meets ADA accessibility standards and industry best practices


Skills & Experience Required - Essential

  • 7+ years of experience in interpreting services, accessibility services, or interpreter operations
  • 3+ years of leadership or management experience
  • Deep understanding of ASL interpreting services and Deaf culture
  • Experience managing interpreter scheduling, booking systems, or service operations
  • Strong operational leadership and team management skills


Skills & Experience Required - Desirable

  • RID Certification (NIC, CI/CT, CDI) or equivalent interpreting credentials
  • Experience with VRS, VRI, or captioning services
  • Experience in accessibility technology platforms
  • Experience scaling services nationally or managing remote interpreter teams
  • Knowledge of ADA accessibility requirements and communication access standards
