Position Overview

Speer Technologies is seeking a skilled and technically minded Technical Writer to support our growing proposal and business development function. This is a high-impact, fully remote role open to candidates across Canada, with in-office options available for those in or near Toronto to join team meetings and collaborative sessions.

You'll work closely with our Director of Product and cross-functional teams to translate complex engineering and product concepts into clear, accurate, and compelling technical content for RFP submissions. Rather than leading proposals end-to-end, your core focus will be providing the technical depth and engineering insight that strengthens each submission, supporting a target volume of six to twelve RFPs per month.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Input & Content Development: Translate engineering concepts, product capabilities, and technical specifications into clear, accurate written content for RFP responses and proposals.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the Director of Product and internal engineering resources to gather, interpret, and structure technical information for use across submissions.
  • Proposal Support: Provide dedicated technical writing support across concurrent RFP submissions, ensuring engineering content is accurate, well-articulated, and tailored to each opportunity's requirements.
  • Content & Knowledge Management: Maintain and build a library of reusable technical content, including product descriptions, capability summaries, and engineering narratives, to streamline the proposal process.
  • Compliance & Accuracy: Ensure all technical content meets submission requirements and accurately reflects Speer's capabilities, products, and differentiators.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to make the technical input process more efficient and scalable, reducing the burden on product and engineering leadership over time.

Qualifications

  • Engineering background with a transition into technical writing, bringing the ability to understand, interpret, and communicate complex technical concepts with clarity.
  • Previous experience contributing to RFP responses, proposals, or technical documentation in a professional setting.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt tone and detail level to suit different audiences and submission requirements.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where priorities can shift and deadlines are firm.
  • Proactive and self-directed, with the ability to take ownership of deliverables and work independently without close supervision.
  • Strong collaborator who can gather information effectively from subject matter experts and translate it into polished written content.
  • Solid organizational skills with the ability to manage input across multiple concurrent proposals without losing accuracy or quality.

Nice to Haves

  • Familiarity with Canadian or international government procurement processes, grant programs, or funding landscapes relevant to health tech, AI, or deep tech.
  • Hands-on engineering or product experience, particularly in software, hardware, or emerging technology fields.
  • Experience working in or alongside a proposal or business development team.
  • Fluency in French is an asset (but not required).

Compensation

  • Full-time role preferred, with part-time arrangements considered for the right candidate.
  • Fully remote, open to candidates across Canada. In-office options available for those in or near Toronto.
  • Compensation ranges from $55,000 to $80,000 per year, commensurate with experience and engagement type.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including dental care, vision care, paid time off, and a wellness program.

Why Speer Technologies?

  • Growth Opportunities: Grow with the company and take on new responsibilities as we expand.
  • Dynamic Environment: Our fast-paced startup environment ensures no two days are the same.
  • Innovation: Be part of a team pushing the boundaries of technology and making a real impact.
  • Inclusive Workplace: We are committed to creating an environment where all employees can thrive.
