Stand.earth is seeking a creative and experienced community organizer for a part-time (20-32 hours per week) contract position starting as soon as possible for a 12-month term with possible extension. Reporting to the Senior Campaigner, this fully remote position will be responsible for coordinating and expanding Stand.earth’s engagement with local campaigns and organizers focused on local opposition to data center developments in key regions around the USA. This role will be part of Stand’s Big Tech team, and the contractor’s work will build on an existing national and international campaign to increase local and national pressure on Microsoft to deliver on key climate and energy commitments, including supporting local community partners engaged in existing data center site fights.Â
Are you already active on local data center campaigns? Are you experienced at local organizing, community level engagement, facilitation, and corporate campaigning? Are you ready to hit the ground running? Our ideal candidate will have a background in building networked community campaigns with experience in data center and AI related issues in the US, and experience in working with diverse groups and organizers, collaborating on strategy development and building consensus to implement campaign strategies. Â
We encourage applicants to apply by September 20, 2026. This position is open until filled. Â
Stand.earth is a nonprofit environmental organization working to create a world where respect for people and the environment comes first. Our campaigns challenge destructive corporate and governmental practices, demand accountability, and create solutions that support all of us — and the environment and climate upon which we depend. Stand’s strategic approach and fierce determination have yielded extraordinary results: Since 2000, we’ve secured the protection of millions of acres of wilderness, shifted billions of dollars of corporate purchasing and investing toward responsible options, and transformed the environmental practices of more than 100 major corporations. Stand.earth operates in the United States and Canada.
Stand recognizes and respects the sovereignty of First Nations, and the rights of Indigenous Peoples and frontline communities. These communities are often first and most directly impacted by environmental pollution and climate change, and they provide critical leadership in developing solutions.Â
Pollution, climate change, and corporations’ bad behavior disproportionately hurts the most marginalized people in society — including people of color, people from working-class backgrounds, people with disabilities, women, and LGBTQ+ people. To develop transformative solutions, these communities must be centered in the work we do. Hence, we strongly encourage applications from people with these identities or who are members of other historically marginalized communities. If you require assistance applying to this opportunity, please contact equalopportunity@stand.earth.
We are looking for someone ready to help build a national movement to network individual data center battlegrounds into a wider story about community power and corporate harm. The role will be part of Stand.earth’s Big Tech team, supporting the campaign team by working with a network of community organizers and groups to build local power to hold Microsoft to account for the impact of its data center build-out.
This is a part-time fixed-term position until the end of September 2027. Salary is commensurate with experience and adjusted based on location, but will likely be within the range of $27.64 - $40.87 USD per hour [$57,000 USD - $85,000 USD annually prorated]. Stand.earth offers a medical insurance stipend in lieu of extended health benefits and 4-weeks vacation, prorated. We also encourage employees to make use of our mindfulness sessions and professional development training opportunities that we offer. All staff can expect to travel periodically for in-person team meetings, retreats, and work events.
