Field Marketing Specialist
Steelhead Technologies is on a mission to build the ERP that powers manufacturing. Our cloud-based platform is built for job shops: the powder coaters, platers, anodizers, heat treaters, and fabricators at the heart of manufacturing. We give shops real-time visibility into their operations, boost efficiency with an all-in-one, AI-powered system, and layer on intelligence with automated data analysis that gives teams the power to make better decisions, faster.
Our vision is simple: move manufacturing forward. We are in our sixth year of momentum and just getting started.
Our marketing team has three goals: create raving advocates out of our customers, capture their outcomes, and systematically share those stories to inspire change within our target market.
OUR VALUES
- Customer obsession: Create dream outcomes for customers.
- Relentless curiosity: Understand first principles.
- Integrity: Everything we do is built on trust.
- Ownership: Success is not an accident.
- Conviction: Whether you think you can, or think you can’t, you’re right.
About the role
Customer events at Steelhead are just starting to scale. Your first job is to execute: you will own the logistics of our Revenue Riptide customer event series, trade shows, and webinars. You will also handle many smaller administrative tasks that keep the broader team moving. As we are looking to scale these efforts, we will work with you to build the system behind them, so every event is easier than the last, and none starts from scratch.
This is a good fit for someone early in their marketing career who wants real ownership, fast. You report to Kelsey, who coaches and reviews your work.
What you'll do
- RUN EVENTS AND BE IN THE ROOM
- Hosted events (Revenue Riptide and future multi-city programs): Run the plan from start to finish. Venue, menu, décor, attendee messages, run-of-show, RSVPs and attendance, and outreach before and after, including calling invited customers to ask whether they are coming. Manage support needed from others on the Steelhead team for execution as needed.
- Trade shows (SurFin, FabTech, IMTS, Heat Treat, and more): plan booth logistics, shipping, materials, and setup. Manage abstract submissions, presentation materials, and communicate with assigned speaker. Coordinate with the sales team to staff the booth and work the booth yourself. Capture leads and follow up with Sales.
- ShopTalks and webinars: Schedule the events, provide registration for outreach, reminders, speakers and slides, and the day-of-run.
- Smaller regional events: Work with Sales team to find regional events to attend. Take care of registration, prep materials, and communicate with organization. Reach out to customers and ask if they will be in attendance.
- BUILD THE SYSTEM
- Write and keep current a playbook for each event type: trade shows, Revenue Riptide and other hosted customer events, ShopTalks, and webinars. Continually keep it updated with every event.
- Build the checklists, templates, run-of-show documents, and recap workflows so the process can scale with automation.
- Work with Ops team to set goals for each event to establish a basis to monitor performance.
- Own handoff of leads to Ops for quick follow up from the BDRs and AEs.
- Use AI tools (Primarily GrokBot, others as needed) to automate repeat work and keep testing how much more of the event process can be automated. Check the output, write down what works, and share it. This team iterates fast and swaps playbooks often.
- Report on each event based on preset goals (differs by event type).
- MARKETING ADMIN
- Manage event platforms including Cvent for registration, check-in, and reporting.
- Update website landing pages for events, webinars, and roadshow stops.
- Order and track print materials, Steelhead swag, and business cards.
- Maintain event calendars, timelines, and project trackers.
What We Look For
We hire for character and habits first. Experience is a bonus. Early-career candidates have usually not run events or built playbooks yet, and that is fine.
- PEOPLE SIDE
- Outgoing. You start conversations with people easily and get energy from being around people. You are not afraid to pick up the phone and call a customer.
- Warm. You put people at ease, listen, and care about their shop and their story. When you call to ask if a customer is coming, you are curious about why or why not, and you keep the relationship friendly either way. At the event, you welcome each attendee and are a resource for them.
- Hustle and resilience. A slow hour or a “no” does not slow you down. You stay positive and keep going through long days at an event or doing a phone call blitz.
- Clear communicator. You explain value props of an event simply to shop owners, write a crisp email or attendee update, and communicate back to the team on progress.
- BUILDER SIDE
- Follow through. You do what you said you would do, and you finish it. Nothing falls through the cracks.
- Sweats the small stuff. Perfectly folded papers, matching tablecloths, no clashing colors. You proofread every message and check every date, time, and name before it goes out.
- Ownership. You spot what needs to happen next and move on it. You do not wait to be told, and you get customer-facing work reviewed before it ships.
- Documents. You keep lists, notes, and templates, and you turn a one-time task into a checklist without being asked. You document each process clearly enough that someone else, or an automation, can follow it.
- Curious self-teacher. You teach yourself new things and pick up our customers and product fast.
- AI-curious. You already use AI tools, or you are actively building that habit. You try new tools and know their limits.
- BOTH
- Coachable. You take feedback without getting defensive and change what you do next time.
- Good taste. You choose menus, décor, and swag that fit our customers and the event theme.
- Early in your career. 1–3 years in marketing, events, or a related field is a bonus.
- Comfortable juggling several projects with competing deadlines.
- Willing to work in person at our Brighton, MI office.
A Bonus, Not Required
- Worked or helped run a trade show or events (internship, school, or a job counts).
- Used HubSpot or another CRM, or an event platform like Cvent.
- Run or supported a webinar.
- Background in B2B, SaaS, or manufacturing and industrial marketing.
