About the role

  • The Shredder Welder/Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and fabricating components used throughout the shredding process and related production equipment. This position plays a critical role in minimizing downtime, extending equipment life, and supporting safe and efficient operations.
  • This position works closely with supervisors, operators, and management to identify equipment issues, complete repairs, and support preventative maintenance initiatives throughout the facility.

What you'll do

Welding & Fabrication

  • Perform welding repairs on shredding and processing equipment
  • Fabricate replacement components as needed
  • Repair wear surfaces, guards, chutes, hoppers, and structural components
  • Read measurements and fabrication drawings
  • Cut, fit, and install steel components
  • Maintain welding equipment and supplies

Equipment Maintenance

  • Troubleshoot equipment failures
  • Repair conveyors, processing equipment, and structural components
  • Assist with preventative maintenance activities
  • Replace worn or damaged components
  • Inspect equipment for signs of wear
  • Coordinate major repairs with management

Operational Support

  • Respond to equipment breakdowns
  • Prioritize repairs based on operational needs
  • Assist departments during maintenance shutdowns
  • Support equipment upgrades and improvement projects

Safety & Environmental Compliance

  • Follow all hot work procedures
  • Utilize required PPE
  • Maintain safe work areas
  • Report hazards and safety concerns immediately

Qualifications

  • Welding experience required
  • Fabrication experience preferred
  • Mechanical troubleshooting skills preferred
  • Ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of industrial equipment preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work in confined spaces
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, elevated platforms, and equipment safely
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds occasionally and up to 50 pounds regularly
  • Ability to use welding, cutting, grinding, and fabrication tools safely
  • Ability to work in awkward positions while performing repairs
  • Ability to safely handle heavy materials, components, and tools
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions involving hands, arms, and shoulders
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to respond to equipment breakdowns and emergency repair situations

Work Environment

This position works in an active industrial recycling and metal processing environment and may be exposed to noise, dust, vibration, moving machinery, elevated work areas, heat, sparks, welding fumes, and varying weather conditions.

Employees may be required to perform repairs around conveyors, shredders, balers, loaders, excavators, trucks, trailers, and other industrial equipment. Proper PPE and safe work practices are required at all times.

Schedule & Compensation

  • Part-Time: Approximately 20 hours per week
  • Flexible schedule
  • Primarily evening and/or weekend hours
  • Schedule coordinated around operational needs and employee availability
  • $35–$40 per hour DOE
