About the Role

The Senior Power Electrical Engineer brings our mission to life at the electron level — and then some. You'll design, assemble, install, and maintain the electrical systems our infrastructure depends on: energy storage, energy management, LV power distribution, grid-tied inverters, motor drives, protective relays, automatic transfer switches, and AC-DC and DC-DC power conversion at 1000V and below. But this role goes beyond execution. You'll own subsystems from spec to validation, lead complex design end-to-end, mentor junior engineers, and serve as a key technical voice in design reviews. Every electron in our products flows through your work, and your decisions shape how the team builds from here. You'll do it on a small team, with a hybrid schedule and an async culture built for focused, heads-down work.

Responsibilities

Design and Development

  • Lead the design of complex AC-DC and DC-DC power distribution systems and high-voltage control architectures, setting technical standards and reviewing work across the team for compliance with NEC, UL, and IEEE requirements.
  • Own subsystem design from specification through validation, including grid-tied inverters, motor drive systems, and energy storage integration, ensuring performance, stability, and reliability at scale.
  • Independently conduct and lead advanced power studies, including short circuit analysis, load flow modeling, arc flash hazard assessments, and protection coordination for DERs, industrial facilities, and commercial buildings.
  • Develop and own engineering deliverables (schematics, SLDs, cabinet layouts, O&M manuals, FAT/SAT protocols) with accountability for quality, completeness, and cross-functional review sign-off.
  • Serve as the technical lead in design reviews, flagging systemic risks, pushing back on designs that won’t scale, and mentoring engineers through the review process.
  • Interpret and apply electrical codes (NEC/NFPA 70, UL, IEEE) with expert-level judgment; identify code ambiguities, drive resolution, and help define internal design standards.

Research, Development, and Prototype Assembly

  • Define R&D strategy for early-stage product development; scope prototyping efforts, allocate lab resources, and ensure findings translate into scalable production-ready designs.
  • Oversee prototype assembly and UL 508A panel builds, providing technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians on assembly quality and safety standards.
  • Lead the transition from development to production — defining the standards for wiring diagrams, SOPs, and test procedures that the broader team will follow.

Collaboration and Support

  • Architect and own integrations between power hardware and firmware/controls — going beyond querying memory registers to defining communication protocols, control logic requirements, and integration test strategies with firmware and controls engineers.
  • Mentor junior engineers on software development practices for embedded/power applications; establish and document best practices for the team.
  • Act as a cross-functional technical liaison between electrical engineering, firmware, systems, and manufacturing teams, translating technical tradeoffs into clear decisions for stakeholders.

Documentation and Compliance

  • Own and maintain engineering documentation standards — including panel design records, design change processes, and test protocols — ensuring the team’s work is auditable, transferable, and production-ready.
  • Author and own installation and service manuals for products; establish the documentation standard for the engineering team.
  • Interpret, apply, and help enforce compliance with electrical codes, standards, and safety regulations; proactively identify gaps and drive resolution across engineering and manufacturing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field. Or equivalent hands-on experience that tells the same story.
  • 5–8+ years designing, assembling, and troubleshooting electrical panels.
  • Fluency in AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN. You work in the tools, not around them.
  • Deep comfort with electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and circuit design. You can read and produce them without a second thought.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical tools and equipment; you're as comfortable on the bench as you are at the desk.
  • Sharp attention to detail and strong problem-solving instincts. You catch what others miss and know what to do about it.
  • Clear communicator who works well across a small, fast-moving team.

Preferred Experience

  • Background in renewable energy equipment and installations; you've seen how these systems live in the real world.
  • Comfortable with C++, Python, Arduino, and MODBUS; you can hold your own where software meets hardware.
  • Hands-on familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial automation; you understand the full stack from control logic to physical output.

Location + Travel The role is hybrid remote based in our South Salt Lake Headquarters Warehouse (air-conditioned) and some remote work. May require occasional onsite work at GigaOne in Salt Lake City or Springville R&D warehouse (air-conditioned and non air-conditioned).
Schedule Full-Time, Salaried

Compensation $140,000-175,000 (Note: We have the flexibility to hire at different levels, which may impact the  corresponding pay range.)

Physical Requirements 

  • Must have the ability to safely lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs. 
  • Must be capable of standing, bending, and executing repetitive tasks for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces. 
  • Ability to read, identify, observe and recognize details, color-coding and fine print at close range on associated engineering drawings.
  • Ability to don personal protective equipment to include, but not limited to, respiratory protective equipment with proper seal, coveralls, ear protection, gloves, eye protection & safety helmet. 
  • Ability to observe, detect and respond to audible and visual machine malfunction warnings.
  • Ability to communicate information so others can understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • This role may involve exposure to moderate industrial noise levels, consistent with typical manufacturing environments. Optional hearing protection is available for employee comfort.
  • Must report to work reliably and with the ability to use full and unimpaired skills and judgment to safely execute your job.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English required.
