About the Role

We are hiring experienced HDD Locators to support directional drilling operations on utility installation projects using DCI Falcon locating systems. This role is critical to strike prevention and bore accuracy. The Locator works in constant coordination with the drill operator, foreman and supervisor, maintains precise guidance data, and upholds strict daily verification and documentation standards.

Travel is required. Candidates must be flexible with overnight stays and project-based work away from the home base.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide real-time locating and guidance support during pilot bore, reaming, and pullback operations using DCI Falcon equipment.
• Perform daily pre-start inspection, calibration, and functionality verification of the DCI Falcon system.
• Verify signal quality, depth, pitch, and accuracy before and during drilling.
• Maintain continuous communication with the drill operator to ensure precise steering and utility protection.
• Support compliance with 811/One-Call processes, verified locates, and all required potholing or exposure procedures.
• Document daily activities, equipment status, and any discrepancies or issues accurately and on time.
• Identify and immediately report signal problems, interference, equipment issues, or changing field conditions.
• Work as part of the operator–locator-foreman–supervisor team to maintain full accountability on every bore.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on experience as an HDD locator supporting directional drilling operations.
• Proven ability to provide accurate real-time guidance (depth, pitch, location) and maintain clear communication with the drill operator.
• Experience operating DCI Falcon locating systems (or equivalent advanced walkover systems).
• Strong working knowledge of utility locating principles, 811/One-Call processes, ticket management, and potholing requirements.
• Tech-comfortable and able to perform daily calibrations, interpret guidance data, and complete digital checklists without resistance.
• Strong safety mindset with demonstrated discipline around strike prevention and stopping work when conditions are not correct.
• Willingness and ability to travel for overnight and multi-day project work.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test (and comply with ongoing drug testing requirements).
• Professional references will be required and will be checked.
• CDL (Class A or B).

Preferred Qualifications

• Direct experience with DCI Falcon F5 / F5+ systems.
• Bilingual (Spanish/English).
• Current OSHA 10 or 30 and First Aid/CPR certification.
• Experience working under formal daily authorization and documentation processes.
• Ability to operate a vacuum excavator for potholing support.
