About the role

Xirgo Technologies is seeking a Product & Test Engineer to support the development and validation of our current and next-generation Video Telematics products. This hands-on role is ideal for someone passionate about in-vehicle testing, video analysis, hardware validation and test automation.

As a Product & Test Engineer, you will execute real-world drive tests, review and classify ADAS and DMS video events, and validate accessories such as extension cameras and custom OBD cables. You will take ownership of test vehicles, ensuring they are properly equipped and maintained to meet evolving business and testing needs, and collaborate with other engineers to build and maintain lab-based automated test setups. You will also develop Python-based test automation and test fixtures, using AI-assisted tools to accelerate development while remaining accountable for the quality of everything you deliver.

Location Requirement:

This role requires the successful candidate to work from the Belfast office. Hybrid working will be available where work requirement allow. Remote or fully remote arrangements are not available for this position.

Right to Work:

Applicants must have the legal right to work in the United Kingdom at the time of application. We are unable to offer sponsorship for this role.

What you'll do

Drive Testing & Field Validation

  • Conduct in-vehicle drive tests to validate ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) and DMS (Driver Monitoring Systems) features.
  • Safely simulate real-world driving scenarios to trigger and verify system behaviour.
  • Record and document test results, environmental conditions and system responses.
  • Take ownership of test vehicles, including installation, configuration and maintenance of required hardware and accessories to support ongoing testing and business requirements.

Video Review & Classification

  • Review recorded video events from ADAS and DMS systems.
  • Accurately classify events as True Positive, False Positive or False Negative based on defined criteria.
  • Maintain detailed logs and support the QA team in identifying trends or anomalies in system performance.

Accessary & Hardware Testing

  • Design and execute test plans for hardware accessories such as extension cameras, custom cables, mounts and other peripherals.
  • Validate compatibility, durability and performance of accessories under various conditions.
  • Provide feedback to engineering teams on usability and integration issues.

Test Automation & Tooling

  • Develop, extend and maintain Python-based test automation frameworks and scripts for device and accessory validation (e.g. serial/ADB control, power and ignition cycling, OTA update regression, log capture and parsing).
  • Integrate automated tests with lab equipment such as programmable power supplies, relay boards and CAN interfaces, and report results into JIRA/TestRail.
  • Use AI-assisted tools (e.g. code assistants, LLMs) to accelerate script development, test case generation and log analysis.
  • Apply human review to all AI-generated output: verify it against requirements and real device behaviour, peer-review code before merge, and take ownership of anything committed or reported.
  • Use only approved AI tools, and follow company policy on the handling of confidential and customer data.

Test Fixtures & Lab Infrastructure

  • Design, build and maintain test fixtures and bench rigs (wiring harnesses, power/ignition simulation, camera mounts, enclosures) to enable repeatable lab testing.
  • Document fixture designs, wiring and configuration so setups can be reproduced and audited.
  • Maintain lab equipment and fault-find fixture issues, distinguishing rig faults from device faults.

Test Execution & Reporting

  • Follow structured test plans and procedures to ensure consistent and repeatable results.
  • Document test outcomes, issues and observations in issue tracking systems (e.g. JIRA, TestRail).
  • Collaborate with QA engineers to reproduce and isolate bugs or unexpected behaviour.

Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • Degree in Electronics, Computer/Software Engineering, Automotive Technology or a related technical field, or an HND with equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Python ability demonstrated through study, projects or work: able to write, read and debug scripts.
  • Practical hardware skills (wiring, soldering/crimping, multimeter, bench power supplies); academic or project experience is acceptable.
  • Understanding of common hardware interfaces: USB, UART/serial, CAN and vehicle power.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow structured test procedures.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.
  • Comfortable working in and around vehicles for extended periods.
  • Full driving licence valid in the UK and willingness to travel locally for drive testing.

Desirable Criteria

  • Familiarity with ADAS/DMS systems or vehicle telematics.
  • Experience with pytest or a similar test framework, and with Git version control.
  • Experience using AI coding assistants in an engineering workflow, with a clear approach to reviewing and validating their output.
  • Linux command line and Android/ADB experience.
  • Fixture design experience, e.g. CAD, harness drawings, 3D printing.
  • Experience with video classification or annotation tools.
  • Familiarity with test tools such as CAN analysers, GPS simulators or diagnostic readers.
  • Experience working with dashcams, vehicle sensors or automotive accessories.
