Purpose:
The Youth Empowerment Mentor has the responsibility to assist with the residential component of Rob’s Cottage as it relates to providing high quality care and support for homeless teens and older youth in foster care. The role of the mentor is to empower youth to develop personal skills and to involve them in creating a positive living environment with their peers. The residential component also includes client supervision, behavior management and participation in life skills classes and activities.

Work Schedule: Youth Haven is a 24-hour facility. Your work schedule is subject to change and includes working holidays and weekends.

Functional Responsibilities:
· Assist in the efforts of an intentionally structured environment to help reinforce proper behaviors through the context of community life and personal responsibility.
· Assume responsibility for the direct supervision and monitoring of youth behavior.
· Provide crisis intervention as needed or as directed.
· Support, empower, and mentor youth in meeting their goals.
· Provide appropriate role modeling and direction to the youth in their daily routines.
· Work collaboratively with other Youth Mentors, Youth Advocates, Cottage Coordinators, Case Managers and staff to listen and meet the needs of the children while in our care.
· Utilize positive youth development approach and positive communication skills.
· Understand and follow Youth Haven’s policies and procedures and the Department of Children and Families (DCF) licensing requirements.
· Perform duties, as assigned, in the care and maintenance of the program and facility.
· Perform daily routine cottage responsibilities, as assigned, including group assignment, meal preparation, serving and eating with youth.
· Transporting youth to scheduled appointments, interviews, school, outings, etc.
· Document, secure, and administer prescribed and over-the-counter medication as outlined by written medical orders
· Responsible for overseeing all cleaning and laundry duties related to a well-maintained shelter to include, but not be limited to, all rooms of facility.
Employment Standards:
· An AA degree from an accredited college or university or 3 years of experience working with target-population or relevant experience in a human services field
· Working knowledge of adolescent developmental behavior
· Ability to respond promptly and effectively in crisis
· Must understand the practice of good boundaries with youth
· Current First Aid and CPR
