Job Description
Zuckerman Investment Group is seeking to hire an MBA graduate to join our investment team as an Investment Analyst in Summer 2027. We are looking for a highly motivated, intellectually curious, and hardworking individual with a passion for financial markets and rigorous, fundamental investment research.
As an Investment Analyst, you will work closely with senior investment professionals to evaluate businesses, conduct in-depth fundamental research, develop investment recommendations, and contribute to portfolio management. This role provides significant exposure to the investment decision-making process and the opportunity to make meaningful contributions from day one.
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong analytical and strategic thinking, excellent communication skills, sound business judgment, and a commitment to continuous learning. Candidates should be comfortable tackling complex problems, synthesizing information into actionable investment insights, and collaborating in a team-oriented environment while maintaining a long-term perspective focused on delivering outstanding investment results for clients.
In addition to core investment responsibilities, you will have the opportunity to participate in cross-functional projects and strategic initiatives that support the firm’s objectives, adapt to evolving business needs, and contribute your expertise to opportunities that extend beyond traditional investment research and portfolio management.
Job Function and Responsibilities:
- Exemplify the core values of Zuckerman Investment Group.
- Source, research and recommend new equity ideas within our investment process.
- Build and maintain detailed financial models.
- Write detailed investment memorandums.
- Develop and maintain research relationships, including with company management, industry contacts, and research vendors, among others.
- Perform thorough fundamental analysis of companies across all sectors.
- Develop actionable insights by consuming and distilling large quantities of information from a variety of sources, including, but not limited to, research reports, industry news, news publications, company press releases and presentations, social media, primary sources, subject matter experts, etc.
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis on broad market trends, industry specific developments, economic conditions, and regulatory, fiscal and monetary policy to inform decision-making.
- Speak with high-net-worth clients about their investment portfolios.
- Participate in marketing meetings with consultants, advisors, clients and prospects.
- Leverage a deep understanding of financial markets to provide tailored solutions.
- Identify and mitigate risks in client portfolios, managing exposure to various asset classes and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Participate in cross-functional projects and strategic initiatives that support the firm’s objectives, adapt to evolving business needs, and contribute your expertise to opportunities that extend beyond traditional investment research and portfolio management.
- Grow into increasing levels of responsibility as experience and capabilities develop, with opportunities to shape the role based on individual strengths and the firm's evolving needs.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- MBA degree from a leading business school with 3–5 years of relevant professional experience in investment management, equity research, consulting, investment banking, private equity, or a related analytical field.
- Highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
- Previous experience researching software and technology companies preferred but not required.
- Demonstrated passion for financial markets, investing, and fundamental business analysis.
- Strong analytical capabilities with the ability to evaluate companies, industries, competitive dynamics, financial statements, and long-term investment opportunities.
- Experience conducting detailed fundamental research and translating insights into actionable investment recommendations.
- Strong business judgment and the ability to identify key drivers of company performance and investment outcomes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate investment theses and present ideas to senior investment professionals.
- Intellectual curiosity, attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- Ability to independently manage multiple projects, prioritize responsibilities, and deliver high-quality work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Strong quantitative, financial modeling, and valuation skills, with proficiency in analyzing company and industry data.
- Ability to think strategically, challenge conventional perspectives, and develop differentiated investment insights.
- High level of integrity, ownership, and accountability with a long-term mindset aligned with the firm’s investment philosophy.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and communicate clearly and effectively with all members of the firm, including firm leadership and Partners.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Proficiency with FactSet and / or Bloomberg.
EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Currently pursuing an MBA or other relevant graduate degree, with an expected graduation date in 2027 and availability to begin full-time employment in Summer 2027.
- Strong academic record, including a minimum GPA of 3.5+ (or equivalent preferred), with demonstrated excellence in analytical coursework, finance, accounting, economics, or related disciplines.
- Interest in pursuing the CFA program.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
The base pay range for this position is $125,000 - $200,000 annually. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, and location.
Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation. We provide industry-competitive salaries and significant incentive plan opportunities, a generous profit sharing 401(k) retirement plan, health insurance, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability programs, a hybrid work environment and paid-time-off programs and opportunities for growth within the firm. This role is also eligible for bonus, subject to company policy.
