About the Position

We are currently seeking a Co-op Student to join our Molecular biology team. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting experimental tasks related to therapeutics research. The Co-op Student will frequently be challenged to critically analyze results and contribute to the Zymeworks team effort to create best-in-class therapeutics.  This position reports to the Senior Research Associate II in Protein Engineering. 


This role will be located in Vancouver, BC and is full-time onsite. The hourly wage for this co-op position is $21.00 CAD.  


What You'll Do

  • Supports the development and setup of antibody discovery libraries through:  
    • DNA purification  
    • PCR/Golden Gate Reactions/Ligation reactions  
    • DNA cloning  
    • Gel/capillary electrophoresis  
    • Sanger and NGS sequencing analysis  
    • Primer/Plasmid design   
  • Maintain mammalian cell lines and perform flow cytometry assays. 
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of methods and raw data using an Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN). 
  • Evaluates data and summarize results for presentations.   
  • Conducts weekly presentation of analyzed and formatted data and reports.  
  • Contributes to routine laboratory maintenance and consumable ordering.  
  • Conducts all activities in accordance with scientific standards, OS&H regulations and established Zymeworks policies and practices.  
  • Adheres to Zymeworks standard procedures for generating, documenting, and archiving data.  Maintains an accurate, up-to-date lab notebook or electronic notebook.

What You'll Bring

  • Currently be enrolled in a Diploma of Biotechnology or BSc program in a scientific discipline and availability for an 8-month co-op term is required.   
  • Successful completion of at least one relevant co-op term and one to two years’ experience related to antibody generation or assay development is preferred.  
  • Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of cross-functional team. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.  
  • Highly organized with good attention to detail.    
  • Experience with aseptic techniques.  
  • Understanding molecular biology techniques.   
  • Good oral, presentation, and scientific/technical writing skills.  
  • Good computer skills particularly with Excel and PowerPoint.  
  • Knowledge of antibody structure and function is an asset.   
  • Experience with cloning is desirable.
