Who We Are

At Framework, we believe the time has come for products that are designed to last. Founded in San Francisco in 2020, our mission is to remake Consumer Electronics to respect people and the planet.

We've started with two award-winning products, the Framework Laptop 13 and 16. Our laptops are thin, light, high-performance notebooks that can be upgraded, customized, and repaired in ways that no other notebook can. Alongside this, we've launched the Framework Marketplace to enable an ecosystem of parts and modules.

In 2026, we introduced Framework Laptop 13 Pro, a ground-up redesign built for power users and developers, bringing a massive leap in battery life, a new CNC aluminum chassis, and our first Ubuntu Certified system, all while remaining repairable, upgradeable, and entirely yours.

We've seen a fantastic reception to Framework Laptop 13 Pro, with MKBHD calling it our “best build yet," Linus Tech Tips declaring "The Framework Pro 13 is peak laptop," and Gizmodo naming it "The Best Modular Laptop Ever Made." That builds on years of recognition from outlets like Ars Technica and multiple Wirecutter reviews (including a recommendation among the best Windows Ultrabooks of 2024), along with making TIME's Best Inventions lists in 2021 and 2023. We're incredibly proud to be recognized as #5 on Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies of 2026, proof of our growth since first appearing on the list at #35 on Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies of 2022.

We come from successful consumer electronics startups including the founding team of Oculus, and have closed multiple rounds of funding to fuel our roadmap. The Position

We are looking for a System Software Engineer based in Taiwan to own key parts of the device software and firmware implementation across our product line. Our products are designed to be open and transparent, and that extends to how we think about firmware and software. We care deeply about open-source software and exposing greater configurability to people who want it. As one of the early engineers in Framework, you'll also have a high level of influence on our products and software philosophy going forward. Depending on alignment with requisite scope, this role may be brought on as a System Software Engineer or Senior System Software Engineer. We’ll align the scope and title to the right candidate!

This role is a full-time hybrid role based in Taiwan, working up to a few days per week in our office in XinYi Dist in Taipei, along with up to 10% local and international travel to partners and our US headquarters.

What You'll Do

• Own implementation of application software, drivers, firmware and support development of embedded controller, PD and BIOS features.
• Manage and review work done by firmware and software teams at our manufacturing partners.
• Create validation plans and bring up and debug systems during NPI on new programs.
• Proactively track and experiment with new technologies and software frameworks to improve our products.
• Ensure that projects you develop can be built on CI and can be validated.

What You Need

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of experience in firmware development and software engineering for electronics products.
• Familiarity with cross-platform application frameworks include x86 and ARM based platforms.
• A background in developing software projects end to end.
• Experience leveraging AI development tools to accelerate workflows and independently ramp up on new codebases
• Proven ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with other engineers, program managers and JDM/ODM partners.
• Demonstrated ability to self-manage and drive project timelines independently without close management oversight.
• Strong written and verbal English communication abilities and familiarity with working across time zones.

What's Nice to Have

• A passion for environmentalism and/or DIY.
• Experience working in an early-stage hardware/electronics startup where engineers own features end-to-end with minimal supervision.
• Experience with Rust for system-level or firmware programming.
• Expertise at embedded firmware development in C and scripting in Python or similar languages.
• Previous experience with open-source firmware or RTOS platforms (e.g. Zephyr, FreeRTOS, coreboot, Tianocore, CMSIS, etc.)Familiarity working with UI/UX designers to define and implement application features.
• Familiarity with system-level software and drivers on Windows and/or Linux.
• Experience developing utilities for automation, debugging, and diagnostics.
• Practical understanding of adjacent functional areas like Electrical Engineering teams
• Experience working as a remote member of an international team.
• Experience with Embedded Controller (EC) and Host Power delivery (PD) controller firmware development.
