Senior Hardware Product Manager

Who We Are

At Framework, we believe the time has come for products that are designed to last. Founded in San Francisco in 2020, our mission is to remake Consumer Electronics to respect people and the planet.

We've started with two award-winning products, the Framework Laptop 13 and 16. Our laptops are thin, light, high-performance notebooks that are easy to upgrade, repair, and customize. Alongside this, we've launched the Framework Marketplace to enable an ecosystem of parts and modules.

In 2025, we added two new products to our lineup: The Framework Laptop 12, a 2-in-1 convertible with a 12.2" touchscreen and stylus support, and our first non-laptop product, the highly customizable and powerful Framework Desktop, a compact system for gamers and ML enthusiasts.

We've seen a fantastic reception to both of our laptops from customers and reviewers from outlets like Linus Tech TipsArs Technica, and multiple Wirecutter reviews (including a recommendation among the best Windows Ultrabooks of 2024), along with making TIME's Best Inventions lists in 2021 and 2023. As a company, we were #35 on Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies of 2022.

We come from successful consumer electronics startups including the founding team of Oculus, and have closed multiple rounds of funding to fuel our roadmap. Even better (and maybe unusually for an early stage startup), we're in a financially healthy position going forward off of our product revenue. We care deeply about building a diverse and inclusive team, and we hope you do too!

The Position

The single largest scaling challenge that we have today in Framework is that our CEO (who is also writing this job description) is also our Hardware Product Manager. We’re creating a Product Manager, Hardware role to resolve this. We have four product lines today, and our mission demands that we bring our mission and product philosophy to even more of consumer electronics. You’ll bring the necessary combination of technical depth, product taste, audience/competitive understanding, cross-functional connection ability, and sheer willpower to make this possible. You’ll be the overall owner of one or more product lines, across categories we are already in and ones we’re expanding into on our roadmap.

This role is wide-ranging, and we aren’t necessarily looking for someone who has done exactly what we do before (there aren’t a lot of you out there). Instead, we’re looking for someone who can translate their existing experience and rapidly come up to speed on our product approach. This means that depending on where you are on your journey, this role could range from Product Manager to Senior Product Manager or Lead Product Manager. Don’t hesitate to apply if you’re early in your career, but what we’re building resonates for you!

We’re a remote-first company, but for this role, our preference is a hybrid working-mode from our San Francisco headquarters.

What You'll Do

  • Be the overall owner of one or more of our hardware product lines.
  • Be the cross-functional glue between design, engineering, operations, and Go to Market teams, driving alignment and facilitating decisions.
  • Research competitive and audience dynamics of consumer electronics categories to identify and exploit market opportunities.
  • Ensure the products we’re launching are robust, high performance, and high quality by being the harshest user and holding the necessary bar of excellence.
  • Tactically, write MRDs, PRDs and technical specifications, collaborate with the engineering and design teams to iterate on hardware, drive external partners and suppliers, build business models, develop and execute go to market strategies with the Marketing team, and more.

What You Need

  • Prior experience as the main owner of a technically complex zero to one consumer product (ideally a hardware product) in a small team or startup.
  • Depth of understanding of the target audiences (Linux users, power users, environmentally conscious consumers, etc) and cultural and competitive dynamics of the categories we’re entering.
  • Creative ideation ability combined with the technical depth to translate ideas to reality.
  • Extreme drive, with the ability to bulldoze through obstacles, while also remaining tactful and effective at getting buy-in.
  • Product taste (really).

What's Nice to Have

  • Previous experience as a Hardware Product Manager in a startup.
  • Prior experience as a startup Founder or Co-Founder.
  • A career background or education in hardware or software engineering.
  • Familiarity with Linux, PC gaming, PC building, and/or DIY/repair.
  • A passion for consumer rights and sustainability.

What You'll Love

  • Competitive salary, equity, and health benefits
  • Paid company holidays plus 20 PTO days per year
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Flexible work hours and locations, including every other Friday off!
  • 401K with matching for US employees
  • The chance to work at a startup that is making a positive social and environmental impact.
