Commodity Specialist - Mechanical

About Galtra

Galtra designs and manufactures modular, prefabricated infrastructure systems for mission-critical data centers. We integrate mechanical, electrical, controls, and automation into site-ready packages that accelerate delivery, increase density, and cut integration risk. We partner with owners, operators, and leading engineering firms to deliver standardized, scalable solutions for AI-ready and High Performance Computing (HPC) environments.

The Role

This is a key sourcing execution role within Galtra’s Supply Chain team. The Commodity Specialist - Mechanical owns end-to-end sourcing and supplier performance management for mission-critical mechanical and thermal equipment used in Galtra’s modular, prefabricated data center infrastructure systems.

You will lead competitive sourcing events, negotiate commercial terms within defined authority, and build resilient multi-source supply while partnering closely with Engineering, Operations, and Project teams to meet cost, schedule, quality, and compliance requirements.

What You'll Do

  • Own mechanical/thermal commodity sourcing across Galtra’s project portfolio, including RFQ strategy, supplier selection, and award execution for critical mechanical packages.
  • Develop RFQ packages (scope/specifications, commercial requirements, schedule milestones) in partnership with Engineering and Project stakeholders.
  • Run sourcing events end-to-end: bidder strategy, RFQ release, supplier Q&A/clarifications, quote collection, leveling, and award recommendation packets.
  • Drive scope completeness and interface alignment (inclusions/exclusions, accessories/spares, controls/BMS interfaces, and documentation requirements).
  • Negotiate pricing, lead times, warranty, payment terms, and commercial conditions within defined guardrails; escalate exceptions with clear options and recommendations.
  • Establish and maintain a resilient supplier base, targeting a minimum of three qualified suppliers for critical categories; support supplier qualification and onboarding as needed.
  • Maintain supplier performance scorecards and corrective action processes covering delivery, quality, documentation responsiveness, and service.
  • Manage supplier capacity and lead-time commitments; coordinate shipment milestones and expediting cadence for critical equipment and assemblies.
  • Partner with Supply Chain leadership to support framework agreements, pricing models, and long-term supplier strategies for mechanical commodities.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to support standardization, modularization, and design-to-cost initiatives for mechanical systems and integrated packages.
  • Ensure compliance with sourcing policies, contractual deliverables, and required documentation (submittals, certifications, QA records) as applicable.
  • Maintain the commodity system of record: supplier library, pricing and lead-time history, bid tabs, award packets, and lessons learned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring

  • 2-5+ years of progressive experience in mechanical/thermal sourcing, MEP construction sourcing, industrial EPC, or engineered manufacturing supply chains.
  • Demonstrated experience sourcing thermal and mechanical infrastructure such as chillers, pumps/pump skids, heat exchangers, cooling towers/dry coolers, CRAH/fan wall systems, CDUs/liquid cooling, AHUs/DOAS, or closely related categories.
  • Proven RFQ execution and quote leveling discipline; ability to manage complex scopes, clarifications, and award packets.
  • Proven success in negotiations, contract/commercial terms, and supplier relationship management.
  • Experience managing lead times, delivery milestones, and supplier performance in schedule-driven programs.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills; able to coordinate cross-functional stakeholders and drive supplier responsiveness.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Ability to travel up to 35% as needed (vendor site visits, factories, client meetings, and manufacturing facilities across the U.S.).

Preferred Skills

  • Experience sourcing data center thermal systems, liquid cooling solutions, or similarly mission-critical mechanical equipment.
