Position Responsibilities
- Review outpatient same day surgery medical records and supporting documentation.
- Assign accurate ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, CPT/HCPCS procedure codes, modifiers, and applicable facility coding elements for both professional and facility billing.
- Code a wide variety of orthopedic surgical procedures, including arthroscopy, joint procedures, spine, hand, foot and ankle, fracture repairs, and other musculoskeletal surgeries.
- Ensure accurate modifier assignment and compliance with National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edits and payer guidelines.
- Review and reconcile charges to support complete and compliant charge capture.
- Identify documentation opportunities and communicate coding clarification needs when appropriate.
- Maintain established productivity and quality standards.
- Stay current with coding updates, payer policies, and regulatory changes impacting outpatient surgery services.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of recent Same Day Surgery coding experience.
- Extensive experience coding Orthopedic Surgery procedures.
- Experience coding both professional and facility services in a single-pathway workflow.
- Strong knowledge of:
- ICD-10-CM
- CPT/HCPCS
- Modifier assignment
- NCCI edits
- OPPS/APC reimbursement methodologies
