About the fellowship
Responsibilities
Produce News Content - 60%
Produce investigative and explanatory news content (including photojournalism and multimedia content) about how democracy is shifting in specific locations and how those shifts are interconnected.
Newsroom Learning - 20%
Editorial Collaboration - 15%
Collaborate consistently and deeply with the full editorial team to identify opportunities for global, overlapping coverage.
Program Ambassadorship - 5%
Be an ambassador for the program and your reporting, engaging in publication partner relationships, social media conversations and networking engagements.
Qualifications
Live full-time in one of the 15 coverage countries for the duration of the two-year fellowship
Have at least five years of prior newsroom, reporting or related experience
Have a track record of producing high-quality journalism
Be fluent in English (news stories can be written in native language)
Be passionate about visual storytelling and have an interest in developing photojournalism skills
Have basic technology skills, access to regular internet access and experience using word processing and spreadsheet software
Be a collaborative team player with strong communication skills
Candidates will submit in English:
A current resume
A two-page (1,000 word) cover letter stating the gaps they see in coverage of how democracy is shifting in their country, and what role their journalism would play in filling those gaps.
A portfolio of three (3) work samples with a brief explanation of an editor’s role in each.
Three (3) photos they have taken either personally or professionally that demonstrate their photography experience.
