About the role:

  • goTenna seeks a passionate, mission-driven, quality-oriented Mechanical Engineer to join its engineering team. The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, testing, validation, and production release of electro-mechanical systems at goTenna. The Mechanical Engineer provides Mechanical design and product development support as part of a cross functional development team that delivers high quality products to meet demanding customer requirements. This role requires a blend of deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and a passion for solving complex challenges. Travel to meet with customers or visit our U.S. based contract manufacturers should also be expected.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create detailed 3D models and parametric geometry for RF handheld radios, charging systems, and test fixtures, ensuring designs meet performance, manufacturability, and assembly requirements
  • Develop mechanical CAD models and renderings for assemblies involving plastics, metals, and electronic components, supporting product development from concept through production.
  • Perform thermal design, analysis, and validation to support electro-mechanical system development. Develop thermal models, conduct calculations and testing, and evaluate design tradeoffs to ensure components meet performance, reliability, and environmental requirements
  • Provide complete drawing packages including full assembly, sub-assemblies, and detailed component drawings aligned with our configuration management system.
  • Develop and support test requirements for product characterization and verification.
  • Build prototype and pre-production samples for design verification and validation.
  • Create, contribute to, and execute engineering schedules and program budgets to meet customer and marketing requirements.
  • Sustaining engineering support by providing consulting and troubleshooting on technical problems that arise in product development, manufacturing, and fielded operations.
  • Support transition of development to production launch (i.e. process work instructions, drawings, BOM, fixtures, & tooling).


Required Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years' experience in Mechanical design and development of electro-mechanical solutions.
  • Working knowledge of injection molding, sheet metal, and electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Proficiency and direct experience in SolidWorks and/or CAD software.
  • Working knowledge of commercial and military performance standards such as CE, IEC, Mil-Std-810, ANSI.
  • Experience performing thermal simulations on electro-mechanical assemblies to validate component temperatures against derating curves and environmental standards
  • Understanding of ANSI/ISO 9000 and other quality-related best practices and certifications.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and information to other functional departments within the organization.
  • Ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams.
  • Experience building prototype concepts and parts using 3D printers and soft tooling. 
  • Ability to work directly with component vendors.
  • Familiarity with DFM/DFA principles working with contract manufacturers.


Preferred Experience:

  • 6 years of experience with SolidWork design software or equivalent CAD software.
  • Familiarity with FEA/CFD simulation tools (Ansys IcePak preferred).
  • Working knowledge of configuration control and management.
  • Utilization of ANSI Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience with Arena PLM software.
  • Preference for working in the innovative, fast-paced environment of a startup with the understanding of completing multiple tasks that may be outside direct engineering discipline.  
  • Knowledge of printed circuit board manufacturing and electronic assemblies desired.

The pay range for this role is:

100,000 - 130,000 USD per year (Clarksburg, MD)
