What You Will Do:


Reporting to the Supervisor, Fleet, the Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, servicing, and repairing our fleet of vehicles used in utility operations. The successful incumbent will perform routine preventative maintenance, diagnose mechanical issues, manage vehicle service records, and ensure compliance with safety standards. This role is essential to keeping our field teams mobile and our services uninterrupted.

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, repairs, and safety inspections on fleet vehicles and ground support equipment which includes diagnosing mechanical issues, managing vehicle service records, and ensuring compliance with safety standards
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues in gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles
  • Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and respond to field service calls
  • Perform repairs on small support equipment like generators and hydraulic tools
  • Troubleshoot and repair vehicle systems including engines, transmissions, brakes, HVAC, and lighting
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records in the fleet management system and maintain the company’s vehicle maintenance program
  • Order and manage parts inventory and tools for fleet maintenance and assist with fleet asset tracking, utilization, and condition reporting
  •  Ensure compliance with Ontario safety and environmental regulations including annual safety inspections and emissions testing
  • Perform administrative tasks like creating purchase orders and completing and submitting invoices for approval
  • Support and promote a safe working environment by following all safety protocols and company policies

What You Will Bring

  • Minimum of 7 years experience in fleet maintenance and repair of a variety of vehicles and equipment, including radial boom trucks, bucket trucks, service vans, pickup trucks, trailers, forklifts, and ground support equipment like generators and hydraulic tools
  • Completion of Class A Auto Mechanic License
  • Completion of 310S – Automotive Service Technician and 310T – Truck and Coach Technician (Large Trucks) Certifications
  • Willing to obtain Canadian Utility Fleet Equipment Mechanic Certification
  • Knowledge of hydraulics – diesel engines and fuel systems, air brakes and controls, electrical and principals, air conditioning, welding arc and gas
  • Strong understanding of vehicle diagnostic systems and repair procedures
  • Working knowledge of the use and operation of automotive and testing equipment, including gauges and tools, to troubleshoot and repair gasoline, diesel, and propane vehicles and equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics
  • Intermediate computer skills using MS Office Suite programs with experience using fleet maintenance software and inventory tracking systems to maintain and submit service records and complete required documentation
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail to effectively plan and manage various projects in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with team members
  • Familiarity with government regulations
  • Valid DZ vehicle license in good standing

The pay range for this role is:

36.08 - 46.22 CAD per hour (Bishop St)
