About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled Communications Electrical Engineer to design, configure, and support Automation and SCADA systems at the substation level. This role involves programming, installation, troubleshooting, and construction support for power delivery systems. The ideal candidate will have expertise in communications protocols, SCADA/HMI Software’s and regulatory compliance within the power transmission and distribution industry.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical Expertise
- Interpret electrical diagrams for RTUs, communication switches, protocol converters, and I/O wiring.
- Knowledge of the OSI model architecture and interpreting network diagrams.
- Configure and troubleshoot communication protocols such as DNP 3.0, SEL, Modbus, Ethernet, and OPC (Open Platform Communications).
- Work with SCADA point spreadsheets, RTU point lists, and software for RTU brands including NovaTech Orion, GE D20, SEL DPACs/RTACs, SCADApack, SAGE T300, and ACS NTX.
- Program and configure HMI platforms such as Diagram Builder, Ignition, and InkScape.
- Provide construction support for projects involving SCADA, HMIs, RTUs and Programmable Automation Controllers (PACs).
Coordination & Communication
- Collaborate with project teams to communicate engineering designs clearly.
- Assist with construction coordination and provide technical support during execution.
- Maintain strong client relationships and ensure customer satisfaction.
Project Execution
- Take ownership of quality and compliance with industry standards.
- Manage schedules, deliverables, and provide timely progress reports.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- 3–5 years in SCADA, RTU and HMI programming, installation, troubleshooting, or commissioning within transmission and distribution substations.
- Technical abilities: Experience working with multiple common power industry software including examples such as NovaTech Orion, GE D20, SEL DPACs/RTACs, SCADApack, SAGE T300, and ACS NTX.
- Preferred: Professional Engineer (PE), ISA Certifications, or network certifications (e.g., CCNA).
- Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication & interpersonal skills with the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to travel occasionally to substation and client sites as required. May involve on-call support for critical systems.
