Hammerspace obliterates data access delays for AI and high-performance computing. Its Data Platform delivers a high-throughput, low-latency parallel global file system unifying data from edge to core to multi-cloud, accessible via pNFS, NFSv3, SMB and S3 standards. Instant, agentless deployment with native Linux support combined with migration-free data assimilation radically accelerates pipelines. This approach keeps GPUs saturated, speeds time-to-insight, and boosts researcher and developer productivity.
This role is a rare opportunity to push the boundaries of large-scale storage performance, ensuring Hyperscale NAS delivers world-class efficiency and scalability. If you have expertise in high-performance storage, parallel filesystems, and network-aware performance tuning, we want you on our team.
What You’ll Do
Storage Performance Benchmarking & Analysis
- Own the end-to-end storage benchmarking process, from test configuration and execution to analysis and visualization.
- Conduct storage benchmarking using FIO, ensuring workloads accurately reflect real-world customer environments.
- Leverage experience with IOR, VDBench, and Elbencho to support customer PoCs and industry benchmarks.
- Analyze performance bottlenecks in storage across compute, networking, and system architecture—including NUMA topology, PCIe configurations, and network oversubscription.
- Understand parallel filesystems (Lustre, GPFS, BeeGFS, etc.), as Hyperscale NAS operates in a similar space, requiring familiarity with distributed storage architectures.
- Apply knowledge of HPC and AI/ML workloads, understanding their storage and performance demands.
Advanced Storage & Network Performance Engineering
- Query and analyze system-level performance data (e.g., NUMA node assignments, PCIe lane allocations, queue depth optimizations for NVMe devices).
- Optimize deployment architectures by understanding network oversubscription, lossless networking, and storage performance scaling.
- Preferred experience with high-performance networking technologies (RoCE, InfiniBand, NVMe-oF, PFC, ECN, DSCP, VLANs, leaf-spine networks) to ensure optimal performance in Hyperscale NAS environments.
- Collaborate with engineering to refine storage and networking configurations based on real-world performance data
Lab Automation, Data Instrumentation & Deployment
- Develop automation scripts for data collection, performance monitoring, and visualization (Python, Grafana, etc.).
- Optimize BIOS and kernel settings for storage performance, including IOMMU, SR-IOV, SMT, core pinning, and memory interleaving.
- Assist in customer PoCs and hybrid cloud deployments, ensuring best practices for storage performance.
Industry Engagement & Technical Content Development
- Collaborate with technical writers to develop benchmark reports, white papers, reference architectures, trade show collateral, and blogs.
- Present technical findings internally and externally, ensuring performance insights align with industry best practices.
- Lead or contribute to industry benchmarks (MLPerf Storage, STAC-M3, SPEC Storage, IO500).
Sales & Customer-Facing Technical Enablement
- Support sales engineers in system sizing, ensuring customers get optimal storage performance tailored to their workloads.
- Assist with performance benchmarking in customer environments, troubleshooting issues and providing real-time optimizations.
- Present performance findings to both technical and executive audiences.
