The Controller ensures the integrity, accuracy, and scalability of the company’s financial operations by owning the end-to-end accounting function for a multi-entity, nationwide organization. This role leads proactive cash management, delivers timely and reliable financial reporting, drives continuous process improvement, and prepares the organization for successful audits. By building scalable accounting systems, implementing robust controls, and mentoring a high-performing team, the Controller enables leadership to make confident, data-driven decisions that support growth, M&A activity, and future sale readiness.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the full accounting and financial reporting function, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and GAAP compliance across all entities.
  • Lead the migration from QuickBooks to NetSuite, including system design, data migration, process documentation, and team training.
  • Build and scale accounting infrastructure—policies, controls, workflows, and team structure—to support growth from $50M to $100M+ ARR.
  • Establish and maintain month-end and quarter-end close processes, with a focus on accelerating close timelines.
  • Drive technical accounting for complex revenue recognition matters under ASC 606 and lead financial integration of acquisitions (ASC 805).
  • Serve as the finance lead for sale process readiness, including Quality of Earnings analyses, due diligence, and data room management.
  • Partner with external auditors to ensure audit-ready financials and maintain robust internal controls (SOX-lite/full SOX readiness).
  • Develop and mentor a high-performing accounting team while collaborating with FP&A, legal, and operations to ensure financial data integrity.

Qualifications

  • CPA with 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3–5 years as Controller or Assistant Controller; Big 4 or large regional firm background preferred.
  • Direct experience in private equity-backed companies and SaaS/recurring revenue businesses.
  • Led NetSuite or similar mid-market ERP implementations and built scalable accounting processes and teams.
  • Deep technical expertise in ASC 606 revenue recognition and acquisition accounting.
  • Hands-on experience supporting M&A and sale processes, including QofE, financial audits, and due diligence.
  • Strong communicator capable of translating complex accounting matters for executives, PE sponsors, and boards.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Advanced Excel/Google Sheets modeling and multi-entity GAAP-compliant consolidated reporting.
  • SaaS-specific accounting expertise, including deferred revenue, subscription billing, and internal controls (SOX-lite/full SOX).
  • Familiarity with lease accounting (ASC 842), multi-state SALT, payroll processes, and consolidation tools like JustConsolidate.

Compensation: 

Compensation at the time of offer is based on factors such as skill set, experience, qualifications, and work location. Salary is one part of Harbor Compliance’s total compensation package. Other benefits may include health benefits, flexible paid time off, parental leave, fertility and adoption assistance, 401(k), and educational reimbursement. Note that the salary range and benefits apply only to U.S.-based candidates.

The pay range for this role is:

146,123 - 208,747 USD per year (US National)
