About the Role
We’re looking for a Vice President of Engineering to lead Harness through a pivotal phase of platform transformation and team growth. Reporting to the CEO, this role will own our engineering strategy, scale the team, and guide the consolidation of our legacy systems into a unified modern infrastructure.
You’ll partner closely with Product, Design, and GTM leadership to define our technical roadmap and build the infrastructure needed to support AI-powered features, financial integrations, and high-scale performance. You’ll play a key role in shaping the engineering culture and driving execution in alignment with our long-term business goals.
What You'll Do
- Define and execute Harness’ multi-year engineering strategy, aligned to product and business goals
- Lead the consolidation of our legacy nonprofit platform with our modern AWS-based architecture
- Oversee all engineering operations, architecture, and technical infrastructure, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security
- Build and manage a high-performing, mission-aligned engineering team through hiring, mentorship, and clear development paths
- Partner with the VP of Product to align technical resources with strategic initiatives and go-to-market priorities
- Set the technical foundation for AI/ML capabilities and embedded data experiences
- Implement processes and frameworks for security, incident response, testing, and compliance (SOC 2, PCI, etc.)
- Manage engineering budget, resource allocation, and vendor relationships
- Represent engineering to internal and external stakeholders, including the Executive Team and Board of Directors
Qualifications
Required:
- 12+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 6+ years in senior engineering leadership roles
- Proven success leading platform modernization or system consolidation efforts
- Strong background in AWS cloud architecture, microservices, and distributed systems
- Experience scaling engineering teams in high-growth, product-driven environments
- Familiarity with payment systems, APIs, and fintech infrastructure
- Demonstrated ability to hire, retain, and grow diverse technical teams
- Deep experience implementing engineering best practices, security standards, and DevOps processes
- Strong communication and executive presence; able to effectively advocate for engineering across the org
Preferred:
- Experience in fintech, financial services, or nonprofit technology
- Familiarity with Visa/Mastercard integrations and real-time auth systems
- Prior leadership during high-growth inflection points (e.g., Series B+, M&A, IPO)
- Experience managing hybrid team models (onshore/offshore)
- Understanding of data architecture, analytics platforms, and AI/ML infrastructure
- MBA or advanced technical degree
