What you’ll do:

We are seeking a Lead Product Designer to join our expanding product team. Our primary goal is to create exceptional user experiences for our customers, which include consumers, nonprofits, credit unions, and banks. We take pride in challenging conventional norms and introducing innovative solutions in the realm of giving, local banking, and commerce.

At Harness, product designers are responsible for the entire lifecycle of a product, feature, or experience, starting from ideation to production, and work closely with product managers, engineers, and other cross-functional partners in a pod setting to take ideas from 0 to 1. Reporting to the VP of Product, you will be responsible for all product design activities, including defining the vision, designing solutions, rapidly prototyping, overseeing user research, incorporating feedback, and being the champion of our users’ experiences.

Today, Harness’ Giving Platform powers giving experiences for over 1400 nonprofits. We have processed over $100M and are one of the only fintech startups that supports real-time auth for the Visa and Mastercard payment networks. We are in the early innings of building on this core technology to develop new products that bring reimagined giving and “affinity” experiences connected to the point of transaction to other verticals (e.g. banking, e-commerce, social). This Lead Product Designer will play an instrumental role in partnering with product management to define, test, and implement our product strategy for these new products through iterative design thinking, rapid prototyping, and user research.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Over 4+ years of experience as a Product Designer

  • An innate understanding of the complete design process, including identifying customer needs, jobs-to-be-done and pain points, leading to exceptional customer experiences

  • Excellent product design and UX skills, with a strong competency in visual design and a focus on mobile-centric experiences

  • Strong user research capabilities, including working cross functionally to design and implement a user research program

  • The ability to leverage consumer insights and metrics to inform design decisions and influence the product roadmap

  • Comfort with an iterative design process that involves acting upon feedback

  • Experience working with small businesses and financial institutions

  • A strong systems thinking mindset, capable of connecting the dots across the entire customer ecosystem, both within and outside of our products

  • Proficiency in relevant design and prototyping tools

  • Experience as a strategic partner to product teams and contributing to idea generation

  • A passion for transforming intricate problems into simple and captivating solutions

  • Strong collaboration and self-management abilities

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, able to present concepts clearly to the wider product and design team

Even Better:

  • Experience in mentoring other designers, coaching and providing feedback

  • Bachelor's degree in human-computer interaction, design, economics, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).

  • Proven experience of 8+ years in a related role with 3+ years of product design leadership

  • Previous work experience in a consumer-focused technology organization, especially within fintech

  • Knowledge of customer journey mapping and strategic design to complement design foundations

  • Familiarity with creating interactive prototypes and partnering with engineering to pass off designs
