Harrington Family Health Center, a federally qualified health center, is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to join our team! Role Overview
As the on-site Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in a rural health center, you will have the unique opportunity to make a profound impact on the lives of underserved individuals in our community. You will provide treatment and introduce methods to patients as a means to prevent mental and emotional problems and mental disorders arising from interaction among biological and neurophysiologic vulnerabilities, psychological and developmental factors, and psychosocial and physical environmental stressors.
Your responsibilities will encompass the mental health and well-being of patients, including but not limited to providing continuous quality care, prescribing appropriate medications, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, referring patients to specialists when necessary, and delivering patient education. Key Responsibilities
· Clinical Care
o Work in partnership with patients to provide care for the whole individual using nursing science and psychological theory to understand how mental health affects overall health.
o Provide high level patient care which includes obtaining a mental health history and completing diagnostic evaluations, and provide ongoing counseling, evaluation, diagnosis, intervention, and monitoring of neuropsychiatric problems.
o Utilize interventions which include evidence based psychotherapeutic approaches that facilitate the development of each patient’s intrapersonal, interpersonal and system competencies, as well as prescribing and managing psychotropic medication.
o Work collaboratively with other on-site providers, including LCSW, Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners.
o Coordinate with healthcare providers within HFHC and external specialists to ensure comprehensive and integrated patient care.
· Professional Development
o Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure patients receive the highest level of care based on their presenting needs and adapt to advancements in the evolving healthcare landscape.
o Participate in multidisciplinary education and clinical supervision to enhance provider knowledge and foster collaboration.
o Participate in organizational decision-making by interpreting clinical outcomes and utilizing data from information systems to improve practices.
o Engage in continuing professional development to maintain up-to-date, evidence-based knowledge and competence in all aspects of mental health.
· Organizational Development
o Contribute thoughtful insights to the development and implementation of the behavioral health department and the entire health center growth plans and strategic initiatives.
o Understand and follow fiscal decision-making, as well as operational policies and procedures.
o Support healthcare team members by accepting referrals and providing consultative expertise as needed.
Education
· Successfully completed/graduated from an accredited educational program in a nursing specialty area that provides specialized knowledge and skills for advanced nursing.
· Confirmation of education and training as a Nurse Practitioner.
· Current Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner Licensure issued by the Maine State Board of Nursing.
Experience
· Prior experience as a practicing Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner preferred, though newly graduated candidates are welcome to apply.
· Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care in a primary care setting.
· Strong clinical judgment and reasoning skills, especially in complex and challenging situations.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with colleagues, patients, external agencies, and the community.
