Job Title: Senior Accountant                                                 Location: Corporate Office


Employment Type: Salaried, Full-Time

 

Reports to: Controller

 

Basic Purpose:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing the accurate and timely preparation of financial reports. This role plays a key part in maintaining compliance with accounting standards, managing monthly close cycles, and providing financial insights that support decision-making by ownership, management, and operations teams.

 

Organizational Scope:

The Senior Accountant collaborates closely with property general managers, operations leaders, and corporate management to ensure accurate tracking of financial performance across multiple hotels. This position serves as a vital resource in delivering timely financial statements, reconciling accounts, monitoring accounts payable activity, and maintaining balance sheet integrity. The Senior Staff Accountant safeguards organizational value by upholding internal controls, confidentiality, and adherence to reporting deadlines.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Prepare monthly profit and loss (P&L) statements for multiple hotel properties.
  2. Input and verify data within accounting software to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  3. Prepare general ledger entries and maintain supporting records and files.
  4. Complete and review multiple complex bank reconciliations.
  5. Reconcile and file monthly sales tax returns.
  6. Accrue expenses and manage prepaid and accrual schedules.
  7. Monitor accounts payable activity weekly to assess general ledger impact.
  8. Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
  9. Research and interpret financial data to answer accounting and reporting questions.
  10. Participate in the monthly closing cycle, including general ledger review.
  11. Maintain compliance with deadlines, ensuring timely reporting.
  12. Protect the organization by maintaining strict confidentiality of financial information.
  13. Support special projects and additional accounting duties as assigned.

 

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.

 

Experience:

Several years of progressive accounting experience, with hospitality industry background strongly preferred.

 

Skills & Abilities:

  1. Demonstrates strong analytical skills and attention to detail in financial reporting and reconciliation.
  2. Advanced knowledge of general ledger balancing and reconciliations.
  3. Experience with daily revenue reporting.
  4. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
  5. Possesses strong problem-solving skills and the ability to research and interpret accounting regulations.
  6. Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  7. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  8. Communicates effectively with cross-functional stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.
  9. Thrives in a deadline-driven environment, with excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  10. Strong commitment to deadlines, checklists, and accuracy.
  11. Self-motivated and adaptable.
  12. Maintains confidentiality in handling sensitive financial data.
  13. Familiar with GAAP and USALI accounting standards.

Hours Required:

Forty to fifty hours over a five-day period; schedule may vary based on monthly closing cycles and business needs. Time off may be limited during close periods.

 

Physical Requirements:

This role involves extended periods of sitting at a computer workstation and frequent use of standard office equipment. Must be able to lift and carry up to 15 pounds occasionally. Strong visual acuity and manual dexterity are necessary for document review and data entry. The individual must be able to communicate clearly in meetings and in written correspondence and collaborate effectively with team members across various departments.

70,000 - 75,000 USD per year (Harrison Group General)
